BYAHILO denied to take flight to Tacloban for the Sangyaw Festival 2008

Posted on June 28, 2008

June 28 could have been a very special day for me. For one, I will be traveling out of town again. Second, it will will be my first time to travel to Tacloban Leyte. It will be my first time to set foot in the regional capital of Eastern Visayas (Region 8). But all the excitement started to turn into horror when the airline staff at the check in counter advised me to go to their ticket office.

So to the ticket office I proceeded, with my backpag and camera bag. Then the male officer at the ticket counter informed me that though I have the paper ticket, my booking reference states that it has been cancelled.

Cancelled?! Why in the world should I cancell my Manila-Tacloban ticket, when I have a confirmed Tacloban-Manila return flight, a reservation at a hotel in Tacloban, and my Media ID has already been issued (ready for pick up) for the Sangyaw Festival 2008 in Tacloban?

I was so mad at the ticket office. I NEED TO BE IN TACLOBAN TODAY. My mind’s already been conditiomed that I’ll be seeing sunset today at the scenic San Juanico Bridge.

The airline officer is trying to be empathetic regarding my problem,b ut he said there’s nothing that he can do because the plane ticket I have was issued by a travel agency. And it is only them who can modify changes with my flight details or refund the ticket.

He (the airline officer) then told me that if I really wanted to go to Tacloban today, my only option is to fly at 11AM but I have to get a new ticket which will dent my pocket at around four thousand plus pesos. No way. It’s just so damn expensive. Knowing that its fiesta time in Tacloban, ticket prices are naturally higher.

To cut the story, I bought a cheaper plane ticket to Cebu and fly at 9:30AM. And from Cebu I will take a ferry to Ormoc City. Ormoc is around three hours bus ride to Tacloban.

I was already resigned to this situation. I went out of the ticket office with so much doubts. Will my money be enough for the tranportation expenses? Will the extra hours of travel worth it?

Then by just strike of luck I asked, what if I’ll just fly tomorrow? Will there still be cheap airline ticket to Tacloban?

So I head to the ticket office again. I was not actually expecting anything from this attempt, but alas, the first flight in the morning still has an available low airline fare. So I surrendered my Manila-Cebu airline ticket and exchanged it for a Manila Tacloban ticket with flight date Jun 29, 530AM.

But what about the void ticket? What happens to the travel agency wher I originally bought the ticket? To be continued…

Hi. blog hopping… That’s terrible! Airlines can be notorious. They sometimes over-book and eject excess passengers (usually those who check-in late) during the actual day of flight.

The same thing happened to my friend a long time ago. She was mysteriously erased from the manifesto but she had her ticket with her. Needless to say she raised hell and she was able to get into the flight.

My relatives who are home in Tacloban had the same experience, they were checking in in LAX and was told that they MNL-TAC was cancelled but was ironed out eventually. I hope you get a refund.

My gulay friendship!!! that was very disastrous. I worked in an online travel agency before and the agency really don’t have the right to cancel your flight reservation and if ever they will, they will immediately inform you regarding that thing. There was a negligence on their part and you are entitle to claim a refund plus damages for that..Text me if they fail to issue you that refund.
