BYAHILO in another round of Binondo Chinatown Food Tour

Posted by on July 7, 2008

It was not my first time to set foot in Binondo. But my first time to do a food tour with several travel bloggers and food bloggers from Manila, Philippines.

Binondo is a place close to my heart. The mere mention of the name Binondo, I can already conjure images of freshly steamed dumplings, noodles and somewhatnot in my imagination.

History tells us that Binondo was a district of Manila where the Chinese population was dumped by the Spaniards. That is why up until now Binondo, especially the Ongpin Street is known as Manila’s Chinatown.

And definitely, when there’s a Chinese population, there is Chinese food!

So off we go to do another round of Binondo Food Tour. Juned, Nina, Melo and I met at the Guadalupe Ferry station and take the river cruise leading to Escolta. Escola was once known as the place-to-be. That was before Makati took over the title.

From Escolta we walked towards Binondo Church to meet Arpee and Noreen. Binondo Church is officially called Basilica Minore del San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila. This is the very church where the first Filipino saint Lorenzo Ruiz served as an acolyte or sacristan.

When then left the area and headed to our very first Binondo Food trip destination: Dong Bei Dumplings
