Dong Bei Dumplings: Binondo Manila Secret food heaven exposed
Posted on July 8, 2008
For so many times, I have been associating Binondo with dumplings. And when I say dumplings there’s only one place in Binondo that it’s really worth dying for.
Dong Bei Dumplings
Dong Bei literally means northeast. And I can only assume that the foods served in Dong Bei Dumpling house is from the North.
The Chinese foods that we were accustomed to are of Southern influence or more popularly known as Cantonese. These are characterized by more intricate flavors, food presentation, and the quantity of its ingredients.
The northern Chinese delicacies on the other hand have less complex flavors and has lesser ingredients.
For a start we had double orders of Kutsay dumplings and an order of pork dumplings. And as expected this freshly boiled delights never failed me. Perfectly made, as always.
We then had an order of Kutsay fried dumplings and pork fried dumplings. The fried dumplings doesn’t look like the boiled variety. The fried dumplings is flattened.
We then had an order of fried tofu which looks like a sandwich. Looks like its filling is meat, then it was smothered with rich tasty sauce.
And due to some health restrictions, Arpee cannot eat tofu so he ordered a bowl of steaming hot handiwork noodles with some seafood bits.
Everything is good. With so much food served at the table, who would have thought that we are just in the appetizer stage?
A heavy full and mouth-watering main course awaits us in our next Binondo Food Trip destination.
Dong Bei Dumplings is located along Yuchengco Street formerly known as the Nueva Street. near Ongpin in Binondo Manila.
