Masskara 2008 soon to hit the streets of Bacolod City

In just a little less than three months time, the streets of Bacolod City will once again be decked with all the buntings and banners. Loud music and colourful costumes are de rigeur. And everyone is expected to be in a party mode.

The Philippines’ most colorful festival will be taking centerstage as hundreds of dancers in colourful and heavily decorated costumes and smiling masks dance to the loud music during the annual Maskara Festival 2008.

The 2008 Bacolod Masskara Festival will probably be one of the biggest in the festival’s history. This year, the city of Bacolod is celebrating its 70th Charter Anniversary. And definitely, a big reason for celebration. And while the Bacoleños celebrate the city’s milestone, this will also serve as a p[reparation for an even more bigger Masskara in 2009! You know why? Bacolod’s most popular festival will be celebrating its 30th year!

This year’s Masskara 2008 festival schedule is slated October 1-21. My hunch is that the Schools Category Streetdance competition will be held on October 18th, to be followed by the countdown to the Charter day street party. October 19 will be the annual Bacolod City Charter Day Civic Military Parade. October 20 will be the Maskara 2008 Barangay Category Street dance Competition. October 21 will be the Open Category Contest.

dali n lang gid tuod, volare kag lambada gid ang pinakanami nga sunata sa masskara inang madala ka gid bala aw.. hehhe nice Eric, amo man ni nga time una ko nag saot masskara hehehe…

Wow oo nga noh maskarra na naman sa Bacolod. The last time I attended this festival was in October of 2006. Miss ko na gid ang Bacolod.

I hope this time barangay 23 will no longer be a bridesmaid to brgy alijis, or villamonte. there dance step is very different to above competing group. costumes, etc.
