Former Masskara Festival Grandslam Champion returns to compete at the Masskara Festival 2008 streetdance contest
Posted on August 6, 2008
Many have been awed by their fast paced choreography. A lot has been bedazzled by their colorful costumes. And so many has tried to get their masks as souvenirs after the contest.
Masskara Festival Grandslam Winner for 2003, 2004 and 2005 Baranggay Villamonte is set to make a grand comeback this year. Just in time for Bacolod City’s 70th Charter day Anniversary.

This news was relayed to me by friends who were Masskara dancers themselves late last year. But this was confirmed to me only last June 29 in Tacloban City by none other than Segundo Jesus Cabalcar who is more popularly known in Bacolod as “Panoy”. The very choreographer who brought fame and glory to Barangay Villamonte during its time.
Their costume and mask design is already in the drawing board and will soon come into reality as the Masskara Festival Streetdance 2008 gets nearer.

Brgy. Villamonte was sent to in Shanghai China for the 2004 World Tourism Festival where they won the top prize in that said event. In 2005 they were also sent to Osaka Japan to represent the Philippines in the Midosoji Festival where they also won as the best foreign contingent.
And this year the competition is just getting better and better as they return to dance in the streets with their colorful costumes and fully beaded and sequined fiberglass masks.
