Last Sunday, Bong and I were invited to come to Enchanted Kingdom in Santa Rosa Laguna, Philippines to witness its biggest and grandest Anime, manga, and Comics convention known as OtakonEK 2008.

The town of Bacoor, also named Bakood or Bakoor (named after a species of bamboo), was founded in 1671. Legend has it that when Spanish troops arrived in this town, they encountered people who were building a fence around their houses. The Spaniards then asked the men what the place?s name was but because the locals could not understand what the visitors were saying, they answered “bakood,” purportedly to describe what they were doing. It was then given the Spanish pronunciation which is “Bacoor.??

Bacoor takes pride in perhaps its contribution to the world of Filipino refreshments and desserts: halo-halo!
This can be gorged in generous heaps at Digman Halo Halo, located along a side alley that makes it a best-kept secret among the uninitiated but a favorite route among aficionados.

Back to back Sinulog Free Interpretation Champion group Lumad Basakanon is now on high gears as it prepares to return to the Sinulog 2009 Streetdance competition.

Bacoor may be known for its rich history and Philippine revolutionary legacies, but it is also known for at least two culinary specialties ? tahong/ talaba and halo-halo!

It was a night each and every blogger looked forward to. The so-called ?Oscars? of the Philippine Blogging Community.
Last night marked the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards where blogs of outstanding value were given recognition. I was included in the shortlist as finalist in the Travel Category but as always, never expect to win. Being included as a finalist is already a great honor for me.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has signed the Presidential Proclamation 1625, declaring October 1 as a regular holiday in the observance of the last day of the Muslim month of Ramadan known as Eidl’l Fitr or the Hari Raya Puasa.
“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, as a regular holiday throughout the country” the proclamation reads.
