Masskara Festival 2008 Schedule Latest Update

Here’s the freshest Masskara Festival 2008 Updates:
- List of Masskara Streetdance Contingents released
- Villamonte won’t be seeing action under the Brgy Category
- Cebuana Lhuillier Mask covered with 18K Gold Leaf!
- 10 groups join Electric Masskara
Last September 3, I posted an article confirming the participation of 33 groups for this year’s Masskara Festival 2008. Just today, I received the official list of contingents who will be performing in this year’s Masskara Streetdance competition.
This coming Thursday, October 16, 11 groups will be performing. 7 willb e vying for the top spot for the Elementary Schools Category and the other 4 will be contesting for the High School Category.
On Friday, October 17, 22 groups will be dancing on the street during the Masskara 2008 Barangay Category Competition.
You will notice that Brgy. Villamonte is not listed as a contingent. This is because they were not able to sign up for the Barangay Category. Villamonte was once declared as Grand Slam Champion of Masskara Festival after winning the Open Category for three straight years.
They will still perform on Saturday October 18 under the Open Category, carrying the name of Lhuillier Pawnshop.
The Lhuillier group who will be donning masks covered in 18 karat gold leaf will be join by the winners of the Elementary and School Category and the top 10 winners of the Barangay Category during the Open Category. This is the first time that a mask will be used in Masskara Festival is covered in 18 Karat Gold.
Aside from the traditional Masskara Streetdance which usually starts at 1 PM, a new innovation which was started last year the Electric Masskara will also be staged along Lacson Street. This year, 8 barangays have signified their intention to join the Electric Masskara Competition.
Electric Masskara is fresh innovation introduced last year. The event is held at night and features dancers with lighted costumes and props.
The 22 barangays who will be joining the streetdance parade on October 17 are:
Brgy. 9, Brgy.17, Brgy. 22, Brgy.23, Brgy.28, Brgy. 30, Brgy. Cabug, Brgy. 25, Brgy. 7, Brgy. Bata, Brgy. 4, Brgy. Mandalagan, Brgy. 8, Brgy. 27, Brgy. 29, Brgy. 19, Brgy. Alangilan, Brgy. Handumanan, Brgy. 12, Brgy. 37, Brgy. 36, and Brgy. 41.
The 11 schools who will be participating for the Elementary and School Division street dance Contest are:
Mandalagan Elementary School, Alfredo Montelibano, Sr. Elem. School, Rafael Alunan Elem. School, Jose Gonzaga Elem. School, Rizal Elem. School, ETCS I, Sum-ag Elem. School, Domingo Lacson National High School, Alangilan National high School, Bacolod City National High School, Handumanan National high School
The eight barangays who will be joining the Electric Masskara are:
Brgy. Singcang Airport, Brgy. Villamonte, Brgy. 11, Brgy.16, Brgy. 13, Brgy. 26, Brgy. 39, and Brgy. 33
