This Cris Rios is a Thief!
Posted on October 29, 2008
Last October 28, I discovered that one of my photo was used by the officiate website of the Masskara Festival. It could have been OK. I should have been proud that my work got featured there. What bothers me is that my photo was used without my permission.
So I immediately contacted the administrator of the website informing them that my photo was used without my permission. I them demanded an apology from them.
Upon further investigation, I found out that my photo was forwarded to the Bacolod Masskara Festival Website administrators via email. The photo was forwarded by a certain CRIS RIOS with an email address Cris@itnetwork.cjb.net. In his message dated October 22 to the website administrator reads:
Sirs:
Please see attached photo which you can use for your website.
Thank you.
Cris
When I informed the web administrators that the photos were actually mine, they asked that CRIS RIOS to submit proof that the photo in question was indeed his’. But what really got me pissed is the arrogance in the tone of this CRIS RIOS’ reply:
I took it sa plaza. maybe we just have the same angling when i took the picture.

Wow. We have the same photo? Remember that it was an action shot. It is not easy to duplicate an action shot, with similar lighting condition, angles, etc. And you replied with a smiley at the end of your statement? What are you trying to imply?
And just before lunch today, I have just discovered that this certain CRIS RIOS is a teacher in UNIVERSITY OF NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – RECOLETOS (UNO-R).
I really do not know if you still have the integrity to teach in UNO-R. How can you inculcate the values of honesty and the right way of Christian Living when you yourself is doing something that is not appropriate.
It is really a shame. You just tainted the name of the school where my mom finished her College of Law.
I have sent you an email, challenging you to show proof that THAT photo is indeed yours, but just ignored my email. When I sent my piece, I attached my original unedited photo, together with the photo that has been resized and watermarked to really prove to everyone that THAT photo is really mine. What you did is simply remove the watermark, send it to the Masskara Festival website administrator and pass it off as your work.
So where are you now, CRIS RIOS? Come out in the open. I DEMAND A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM YOU, NOTHING LESS. BE MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT THE WRONGDOING THAT YOU HAVE DONE.
Show to the UNO-R Community that you are still worthy to teach the students there. Show to them that you still have the integrity.

Photo on the left is MY shot. Photo on the righ is from the screenshot, which was allegedly taken by Cris Rios. Is it just coincidental that our photos “look” similar? You’d be the judge.

wow.. that was harsh ric. You are right, action photos will never be a like even if you both are standing in the same very same spot at the very same time(panu yun? impossible)…. I guess the blogger community will support if he will insist that the picture is his.
*the blogger community will support you.
A public apology is expected on this! C’mon, Rio. You don’t know how fatal the blogging world can be.
grabe sya. instructor pala sya sa unor, kaya pala familiar ang name nya… unor hs grad ko… tsk tsk… the fact that he’s insisting that the pic was his makes him more of a loser…gusto mo sulungon ko sa unor? hehehe
Better apologize and tell the truth. Wag niyo galitin si Eric magaaniv pa man din ang byahilo.com
Hmmmm….Cris Rios…is that his full name? I might know him (or her) personally…hmmm…
But anyway, we support your fight Eric.
You have every right to be angry! Write the school where he is connected and the Masskara Website must remove the photo from their website!
huh? grabe the naman. he has the guts to deny it pa. some people talaga huli na dipa aamin.
huh? grabe naman. he has the guts to deny it pa. some people talaga huli na dipa aamin. tsk tsk tsk
RE: “maybe we just have the same angling when i took the picture”
To capture the exact same angle, he must occupy the same space you did which is impossible since your personal space is quite hug… OK, I suddap now.
Kidding aside, sue his ass off.
it is one of the biggest no-nos among photographers, to steal someone else’s light. this cris rios must not keep silent about it. his reputation as well as the reputation of his employer (university of negros occidental - recoletos) will suffer. remember, you can’t delete what has been posted in the net. if he did steal the photo, he should apologize, for his sake. this post now comes out at the top when you search his name in google.
I’m not sure if we can actually pass judgement on what punishment he should be receiving, but for him to have the guts to still stand by his story will only make matters worse for him. It’s totally unacceptable.
But come to think of it, you’re really that popular now that people would steal from you.
Tsk, tsk…kababayan mo pa naman.
wow!your in rage sir. People sometimes do certain things because of their greed, maybe he did it because he needs some money thats why he submit it to that website.
grabe mangakig ba… no comment nalang ko a.
yep it’s the same photo. good thing you noticed
Di maganda ito baka mamihasa yan.. I believed it is hard to have the same photo kasi in action and subject
This certain Chris Rios is a masscomm instructor/professor? If he acts as such, I really pity him…He is disgracing his name, his career and his school.
He could have at least make an apology instead of insisting it is his.
I mean, even if you are sitting beside each other and taking the same object, you will still see the slight differences in the elements of the photograph. This one is really a clear picture that it has been copied from the original source.
i believe that he should apologize. i understand photographers like you who really values every shot. ok na sana kung umamin na lang sya, hirap kasi tumanggi pa.
“I took it sa plaza. maybe we just have the same angling when i took the picture. :)”
lame excuse
I think its ok to copy pictures as long as you you don’t forget to give credits to its photographer, not unless if you have other intentions why you claim it’s your shots.
Mr. Rios, I am from USJ-R - sister school ng
UNO-R, ‘wag mo naman sirain ang mission ng Order of Augustinian Recollects.
A simple heartfelt ’sorry’, I think, will do.
Migo Eric,
How many times na ni na tabo sa imo, it’s because you’re the best, sige lang migs indi na mag asenso ang mga THIEF, ma bulok lang na da sila sa present nila nga ubrahan kay wala creativity.
hi ric,
I am hoping you would recognize me through my surname.
Why not write a letter of complaint sa UNO R?
Tsk tsk tsk… kahuluya.
hala… kahuluya ah. ano na lang gid na bala mag lisensya kay mga bloggers indi man dalok. i myself use the photos of my friends and online buddies for my blog but i ask permission first and acknowledge them and provide link to their sites. it’s as simple as that.
grabe naman..
ano feedback ng admin ng Maskara Festival?
Sana marealize ng Cris na yan kung anong ginawa nya.. wala ba syang blogsite or profile sa net?
Stalk natin! hahaha!
