Barely two months to go and Cebu City will once again host the annual Sinulog Festival 2009. Hundreds of dancers, many of them from as far as Mindanao will be performing during the Sinulog Festival 2009 Grand Mardi Gras Parade.
But will all this pomp and pageantry, one man will be missing this grand spectacle. The father of Cebu City himself.
In a recent news article, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osme?a bared that he will be missing Christmas and Sinulog while he is undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the United States.
Just recently the 60-year old Cebuano Mayor was diagnosed with cancer of the urinary bladder.
Sinulog is an annual event held every third Sunday of January in Cebu City. Sinulog is a traditional prayer dance ritual offered to the Santo Ni?o, characterized by its unique movement of two steps forward and one step back ward. Imitating the Sulog or the rush of the river.
The Cebu Sinulog Festival has won the Grand Prize at the Aliwan Fiesta for three straight years already, from 2006-2008. In the recent edition of the festival, they were represented by the Sinulog Festival Free Interpretation Category Champion, Lumad Basakanon.
