Walking along the beach of Baybay in Roxas City
Posted by on December 16, 2008
When one mentions the word Roxas City, what instantly comes into my mind are the freshest seafoods. Blue marlin, squid, prawns, lapu-lapu, talaba, shells and a whole lot more.
Roxas City, the capital of the province of Capiz has been known as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines. Surely, there are other cities in the country that offers fresh seafoods but only Roxas City produces the freshest bounty and probably has the most variety of seafoods available at incredibly cheap prices.
But aside from the seafoods, another popular landmark of Roxas City is Baybay. Baybay is an Ilonggo term for beach.
As the name implies, Baybay is a long stretch of black sandy beach in Roxas City. This place is a popular hang-out for families during weekends. It is not uncommon to see families from Roxas and neighboring towns flock to this place for a hearty lunch. Young kids would take a dip in its cool water and build sand castles along the shoreline.
Fresh seafoods are readily available at the food stalls along the whole starch of Baybay. One can pick from a wide array of fresh fish oysters and shells and have it cooked according to your taste.
Baybay is a great place for relaxation and quiet moments. There were a lot of people when I went there. I was Saturday lunch time. But I can still feel the privacy I needed while walking along the beach. I just love the feeling of the cool sea breeze blowing on my face. Doing nothing. Just laze around, thinking of nothing.
Baybay is probably one of the best places I have been to this year 2008. Definitely a must-visit when in Roxas City.

We will be staying at the San Antonio Beach Resort in the first week of December. I understand this resort is along the Baybay beach. Are the food stalls near this resort? We would really like to enjoy the fresh seafoods Roxas City is proud of.
