Win a Limited Edition HAVAIANAS Leisure Towel!

Posted on December 20, 2008

To every towel there is a purpose.

Some are meant to be kept demurely folded in guest bathrooms; some are used by martial artists for self-defense; but others?those cut from heartier stock?are the kind you want to have on your back as you jet set through the holidays.

Havs Towel 2

In fact, if pop culture?s most reliable handbook for space travel, ?The Hitchhiker?s Guide to the Galaxy? is anything to go by when it referred to the towel as ?the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have?, it?s the best Christmas present you could possibly give this season. And while only a few will be given the chance to go on an intergalactic journey, this doesn?t mean it still won?t be a welcome addition to anyone?s holiday gear.

This is why you should check out the latest addition to Havaianas? arsenal of travel essentials: the Havaianas Leisure Towels that mirror the versatility and convenience of the world-famous favorite flip-flops brand.

Snap up the special edition, travel must-have for yourself or give them away as gifts and get creative. The jazzy towels are made of plush and absorbent terrycloth that makes it the ideal seaside companion as you stretch across the scorching sand; or share the comfort of 100% cotton as you leisurely enjoy a sunny picnic. Plus, at 3.28feet x 4.92feet, it?s something big enough to stretch out on, but easy enough to tote around and zip up in your carry-all with ease.

Get a chance to win one of this cute and colorful special edition towel!

To join the contest, simply answer the question “WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE WAY OF USING A TOWEL?”. Post your answer in the comments box below. Leave your name and valid email address.

Only one e-mail address is valid per entry. This contest is for Philippine Residents only. Raffle date will be on January 9th, 2009

    A towel is first and foremost valuable to dry yourself after a nice bath or shower.
    I always carry a towel when roaming in new unfamiliar territory like a beach, hill, farm or street to be my shield against the heat, sun,rain, wind or cold. It is my “weapon” on hand against unfriendly animals like dogs who will not respond positively to my friendly gestures. For misbehaving individuals like drinkers or bullies, a big towel can be used as a “straight jacket” to contain him. You can use it as for cooking also to fan the charcoal or when building a fire using woods and other similar materials.
    For those who want to hide and run away from collectors, your wife or girlfriends and even, paparazzi if you are a celebrity, a big towel is a handy tool to cover yourself, if you are lucky and do not get caught.
    A towel can even be used to advertise or promote a cause/advocacy by putting your photo and message on it.

    A towel is an excellent life-saving device that should be part of everyone’s emergency kit. A towel may then be used as/for:

    - drying (water/blood, other fluids);
    - stability for broken limbs (when rolled like a log or looped around the neck like a sling or wrapped around the broken limb then secured with duct tape);
    - elevation for wounds and bleeding (when rolled like a log);
    - comfort like a pillow (when rolled like a log);
    - assault/defense (if filled with heavy material like pebbles or flicked against bare flesh with a wetted tip) – added benefit is that it doesn’t leave obvious contusions;
    - covering if wrapped like a malong or skirt or tube dress;
    - carrying (with the material or a child wrapped securely within the folds then the ends tied like a handle); and,
    - safe breathing (when used to cover both nose and mouth in a smoke-filled area while seeking a suitable escape route or to stuff into gaps between doors or windows to stop smoke intrusion when the towel is wet).

    Aside from the obvious reasons of utilizing towels, I kinda used mine to save face. Hehehe. I once had this light violet towel that I used to cover a “red stain” on my soft blue-colored skirt. The red stain was from a spilled catsup I sat on while dining in McDo. I wouldn’t mind sporting it up as it was but it looked like I had those bad feminine days. Used my towel by clipping one corner on top and letting the other 2 sides pinned covering the stain. It looked weird but the colors kinda matched up. :)

    towels are always there when you need them.

    WHen you were just a boy, you thought you were Superman and used it as a cape.

    When you were a teen and realized you were a ‘girl’, you thought you were Ariel and used it as a fish tail.

    When you reach 20, you realized you were not getting any younger and joined a beauty contest and used it as a prop in the swimsuit category.

    when you reach your adult life, you are starting to get bald and used it as a turban.

    there was this one time when i went to south cotabato for a presscon. in the evening i tagged along with my student to go and buy food. we looked everywhere its just that there’s no store nearby so we’ve reached a fastfood chain (jollibee) inside a mall (kcc in marbel).i was just wearing ordinary clothes for the night and i was carrying my spiderman towel with me and everybody is staring at me while i enter the mall i just wrapped it around my body like a cloak much like a big sarong since people in mindanao used to wear sarongs mine is just a little different. i really don’t mind them and strut my stuff along the queue infront of the counter to make orders. then when we went home we rode along a tricycle and let it wave along the wind while singing much like how an artist would emote in a music video he he ;-) then there was this stage play my students put-up where i had a cameo role. i needed to wear something different so i took my big black towel with gray and while flame design and wrapped it around my body then put a belt on my waist it looked like a short japanese kimono he he ;-)

    I once attended a seminar on play therapy. The speaker emphasized that the ultimate goal is to encourage self-discovery through active imagination. With this in mind, I think a towel is the perfect tool that can facilitate setting up the backdrop of the child?s play. I was ?playing? with my niece at the beach once and while we are stepping inside a hug fluffy white towel, she imagined the ice queen with her ice castle taking a tropical vacation.

    One of the simplest ways to add color to your bathroom is by using a variety of towels. While hanging towels over a towel rack is nice, consider trying something a little different and creative to really catch the eye. For example, buy an inexpensive wine rack that holds four to six bottles of wine. This should be a rack that can be set on a counter and not take up too much space. Get one small hand towel for each wine bottle opening in the rack. These can be towels of all different colors or towels in a similar color scheme. Just choose whatever will look the nicest in your bathroom. Fold each towel lengthwise in half and then roll the towel up starting from one end going to the opposite end. Place each towel in the rack in a similar manner to how you would place wine in the rack. For a more elaborate look, tie a decorative bow or ribbon onto the rack. Place the rack on your vanity or other area of the bathroom where you have extra space.

    Based on some personal anecdotes, I saw some women use umbrellas to hide themselves when taking a leak in the “talahibs” or behind trees specially during long trips in provinces. Well, why not use a colorful towel instead. It gets the job done while being funky and fashionable at the same time. Wihihihi!

    towels are my everyday emergency bestfriend. it’s a wet-absorbing material – you can use it as an emergency diaper for your kids or napkin for those unguarded moments. ;) towels give me warmth in the coldness of the night or gives me protection from ultraviolet rays of the sun. towels give me the comfort that i need every time i need a pillow, blanket or mat to hug and touch with. towels are also a good camouflage material for hiding anything in your body or hiding from those you don’t like to see or if you don’t want to be recognized by people. i also use if i don’t have a bra or underwear or just to cover my extra fats. last but certainly the most important one is that towels are your first and foremost BIG tears-and-goo-absorber every time you have those down and out moments of your life. you see towels are a part of my life. i can’t imagine my life without them. i love my towels! :)

  66. Genelyn Joy Gales on January 3rd, 2009 2:39 am

    Got any idea in proposing marriage to someone you love?

    Banners are worn out….
    Roses are too expensive to be written into words so as the balloons….

    We can always use alternatives for making your proposal a unique one. Use something which you already have, something that you can borrow from your friends, neighbor and anyone, use TOWELS in forming the words “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”….a very affrodable and accessbile way to make your proposal creative and full of effort..

    Summer is coming…you can use colorful and bright towels just like the havaianas towel.This gimmick is a sure hit especially when you will ask your girl on the peak of summer while you’re on the beach…
    uhmmm..many people…yet many will appreciate your effort..^_^

    for me towels can be used in a practical way as a cover when raining or sun striking your face. and can also be used creatively as a towel wrap differently in your head.

    fold the towel lengthwise

    fold the endings as if its an earmuff. and voila!

  69. Eliza Dela Cruz on January 4th, 2009 1:39 am

    I could wax poetic about the virtues of towels but it won’t do it a bit of justice. Suffice it to say that going without a towel is like going without a skin. Nothing to protect us with against the wet, the heat and anything in between. Not only are towels practical, it can even be fashionable by wearing it in a variety of styles and colors. So forget about pricey wraps and sarongs and go instead for the more practical and yet infinitely useful — towels.

    I have used a towel as an art painting canvas using acrylic paint.
    I have also used a towel, instead of a conventional non-artistic paint brush, to paint an interior wall of room. The towel produced a matte-like ‘rough’ effect on the wall which I like very much.

    T – toilet mat…(laid it down at the doorstep of my C.R.)

    O – office decor…(i simply laid it on a glass frame & i now have an instant “towel memorabilia”)

    W – wrapper for a wine gift…(once used it as one to be different…simply placed the bottle at the center,wrapped it like a candy and tied it with ribbons at ends)

    E – eraser…(once used it as one when there was no board eraser around…hehehe…)

    L – loofah…(once used it as a substitute when i had no loofah at the bathroom)

    towel can be use for outdoor activity. It can considered as survival kit. Blanket for covering, use a picnic mat or flag for signaling if you’re loss :)

    I once used a towel as a flag in our camp. The towel I used was very light but very good in absorbing water.

    I still used it anyway. There will be another camp very soon and guess what? I might have a new flag to display!

    i sometimes use midsized colorful towels as extra-special gift wrappers for difficult-to-wrap presents, using furoshiki techniques i learned as an exchange student in japan. just take your oddly-shaped gift, tie a towel around it with the appropriate set of steps, and there you go!

    in a pinch, you can also do the same fold-and-tie tricks to a spare towel to fashion it into a make-shift carrying bag or market basket — perfect for those times you have to lug around some extra pasalubong you got from your most recent trip!
