Aliwan Fiesta 2009 Schedule is here!

Get ready to experience the best of the Philippines as Manila once again hosts the Aliwan Fiesta 2009. This grand cultural festival is set to explode with all the pomp and pageantry this summer!
The Aliwan 2009, which is now on its 7th year, is slated April 23-25. Various activities are lined up during this 3-day fiesta. One of the highlights of the said event is the Reyna ng Aliwan where beauty queens from various cities and municipalities compete in a beauty pageant usually held at the Aliw Theater.
But the main highlight of the Aliwan Fiesta is the grand street dance competitionto be held on April 25. The parade usually starts at the Quirino Grandstand and will wind up to Aliw Theater.
Catch all the drama and excitement as colourful festivals from all over the Philippines battle it out to become the Best Festival of the Philippines.

Iloilo Regatta “Samba de Regatta” Winner will be joining Aliwan 2009 as a guest performer. Kakaibang sayaw naman ito.
Mr. Jardin the President of NCCA said that Dinagyang is way up there in terms of Dancing and Choreography compared sa ibang festival.
Responses Dinagyang has been getting from audiences and media over the years. The performances have awed audiences because of its spectacle – the choreography, costumes and music are very impressive. Especially, the choreography which has been noted by no less than the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The commission has tagged Dinagyang as the “Festival of Excellent Folk Choreography”.

I wish that Cebu’s Sinulog or Lumad Basakanon was not inducted to Hall of Fame. This is because of the following reasons:
1) Sinulog or Lumad will not be seen performing in Aliwan again (unless an exhibition performance is made) and same goes for whoever will be the champion in the succeeding Aliwans. Ergo, less and less festivals will be competing as more contigents are inducted to Hall of Fame status.
2) Excitement in competition will not be eminent since the formidable team to beat which is Lumad is not competing anymore. Therefore, the remaining contigents will not have that much exhilaration to compete since they don’t have the defending champion to beat. There will be no more chance for Lumad to prove their worth again that they are indeed the champion especially to their critics. I belive that, with this year’s improved criteria, Lumad shouldn’t have been inducted to Hall of Fame, hence they should’ve competed.
3)Sinulog or Lumad will not be competing in Aliwan forever, therefore criticisms against Sinulog or Lumad will never be addressed (this year is the best year for them to prove their worth especially with the CCP-conference on streetdance inspired criteria).
I would also suggest that the awards system (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) will be abolished to avoid labelling one festival as inferior to others. Instead, organizers should focus on the individual components of streetdance (choreography, relevance of performance to festival represented, costume, music, blocking, routine originality, etc) that each contigent possess and give awards basing on these components. The number of awards that a contigent will receive shall then serve as the basis of the contigent’s measure of performance.
I hope people will come to think of these suggestions for Aliwan’s improvement.

from what I’ve known, hindi nanalo ang Lumad Basakanon sa Sinulog that’s why they cant compete in Aliwan because of that. So khit pala hindi cla na-induct sa Hall of Fame ng Aliwan, d rin cla makakasali kc d cla nanalo.

Sa totoo lang ang Tribu Paghidaet ay di deserving na Champion ng Dinagyang 2009 because of the following reasons, recycled ang mga costumes,walang bago sa performance, pangit ang music, napakacommon ng mga props.Parang bumalik sila sa mga nanakaraang Dinagyang Festival. Hindi namin alam kung bakit Tribu Paghidaet parin ang Champion gayong marami namang Tribes ang mas maganda pa ang performance kesa sa Paghidaet.

I notice every year, Dinagyang always got the loudest cheer from the audience!
