BYAHILO in Cebu Sinulog Festival 2009!

By the time you read this post, I am already in Cebu City to cover the annual celebration of the Sinulog Festival. This is going to be my second time to cover this grand festival and I am really, really excited to witness the grand Mardi Gras parade tomorrow.
Lumad Basakanon during the Sangyaw Festival
Although there are fewer contingents joining in this year?s street dance parade, compared to last year, the excitement level is still high. I purposely did not have a fixed itinerary for this trip, except to shoot tomorrow?s Sinulog highlights.
My Sinulog ID which I will be wearing tomorrow to gain access in all areas where the Sinulog celebrations are held is already waiting for me in Cebu. Much thaks to Sinjin for getting my ID.
I will also be meeting several members of the Cebu Bloggers Society during a welcome lunch in one of my favorite food outlets: CNT Lechon!
I have already seen the costumes of several contingents and I am expecting a tight contest between Alcoy Siloy Festival group and the Sinanduloy Cultural Dance Troupe of Tangub City for the Sinulog-based Category.
Free Interpretation Category is a bit interesting. Abuyog, Leyte?s Buyugan Festival, and Tacloban City will go head to head against Lumad Basakanon. Lumad Basakanon is the 3-time Champion of the FI Category of Sinulog Festival and 3-time champion of the Aliwan Fiesta. Lumad Basakanon has already beaten Buyugan during the Aliwan 2008. On the other hand, Tacloban City?s Tribu Kabatok of Sangyaw Festival has beaten Lumad Basakanon last June during the Sangyaw Festival.
I?d love to see these three groups compete this Sunday. Though I still place my bets on Lumad Basakanon. The near-perfect execution of their signature routine has earned them raves among festival fanatics. I would love to see some more and something new from them.
