What you should know about Cervical Cancer
Posted by on February 25, 2009
Every two minutes, a woman dies of cervical cancer. In the Philippines, it is the second most leading killer cancer for women.
This cancer is caused by a common virus known as Human Papilloma Virus or HPV. Although this virus is common, only a few strains have been known to cause the cancer of the cervix.
It is also estimated that around 50-80% of women will acquire HPV in their lifetime. And half of these women will be infected with the cancer-causing HPV strain at some point.
But the good news is there is now a way to combat several strains of cancer-causing HPV.
Just recently, leading drug company Glaxo Smithkline has been lowered the price of their HPV vaccination so that each and every Filipina can get the shot.
Ask your doctor about the new cervical cancer vaccination for both young and older women.

Many thanks to Braveheart for inviting BYAHILO to listen at their lecture.
Braveheart is a multi-sectoral coalition dedicated to raising awareness on the prevention of the Cancer of the cervix.
Although this is not a food or travel related event, I decided to post this article here because I believe every woman deserves a chance against cervical cancer.
Check out the short video clip I recorded last week during the lecture.

Wow the statistics is quite high; it’s alarming! I’ve been hearing about this vaccine, actually, and I think I will check it out. Thanks for your concern.
