The Kaamulan Festival of Malaybalay Bukidnon has been in my travel wish list for the longest time. It was only recently that my wish has become a reality.

Nina, Melo, Gail, Marc, and I took an early flight from Manila to Cagayan de Oro. Cagayan de oro is also known for its moniker as the City of Golden Friendship.

Upon arrival, we had a quick breakfast at the hotel where we will be staying. Gail and Marc opted not to join us in Malaybalay Bukidnon.

The celebration of the Kaamulan Festival is an annual gathering of the seven hill tribes of the province of Bukidnon.

The festival is just one of the very few remaining festivals in the Philippines that is still not too commercialized.

True, there are a few streamers and banners advertising some products or some activities hosted by business, but not as many as, like in Cebu Sinulog, Bacolod Masskara or Iloilo Dinagyang Festivals.

We arrived in Malaybalay Bukidnon very late in the morning, but still lucky enough to see the performance of the last competing tribe.

We may have missed a lot of action but we were still able to take lots of festival photos.

I am really amazed at everything that I saw that time. The colors are just exploding everywhere. The dancers are all clad in red black white yellow and blue striped dresses.

What is also amazing is that each tribe has its own float which is decorated with local produce such as corn bananas and pineapple. Everything is grand!

Right after the performance of the last tribe, Bukidnon Congressman Miguel Zubiri declared that whoever wins in this year’s Kaamulan Festival 2009, it will be sent to Cebu City to compete in the Sinulog 2010!

We may have missed most of the tribal performances but the Kaamulan 2009 has already given us a lot of idea on what to expect in next year’s Kaamulan 2010.

Definitely I will be back in Malaybalay bukidnon for the next year’s celebration of the Kaamulan Festivities.

Check out the short video clip I recorded during the last tribe’s performance:
