aynaku…. NAg GIGive lang ang sinulog…
aaaaaaaaahhhhaaahhhaaa
ahm im hoping and expecting for your live video telecast……..
and… how will you doo it pala….. i think its hard to put up live videos…….??
pomise ha…. yung mga videos….. maram,i talaga matutuwa nun
I wish that Cebu’s Sinulog or Lumad Basakanon was not inducted to Hall of Fame. This is because of the following reasons:
1) Sinulog or Lumad will not be seen performing in Aliwan again (unless an exhibition performance is made) and same goes for whoever will be the champion in the succeeding Aliwans. Ergo, less and less festivals will be competing as more contigents are inducted to Hall of Fame status.
2) Excitement in competition will not be eminent since the formidable team to beat which is Lumad is not competing anymore. Therefore, the remaining contigents will not have that much exhilaration to compete since they don’t have the defending champion to beat. There will be no more chance for Lumad to prove their worth again that they are indeed the champion especially to their critics. I belive that, with this year’s improved criteria, Lumad shouldn’t have been inducted to Hall of Fame, hence they should’ve competed.
3)Sinulog or Lumad will not be competing in Aliwan forever, therefore criticisms against Sinulog or Lumad will never be addressed (this year is the best year for them to prove their worth especially with the CCP-conference on streetdance inspired criteria).
I would also suggest that the awards system (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) will be abolished to avoid labelling one festival as inferior to others. Instead, organizers should focus on the individual components of streetdance (choreography, relevance of performance to festival represented, costume, music, blocking, routine originality, etc) that each contigent possess and give awards basing on these components. The number of awards that a contigent will receive shall then serve as the basis of the contigent’s measure of performance.
I hope people will come to think of these suggestions for Aliwan’s improvement.
question lang powh….

I hope Kalibo Ati-atihan will participate next time. While all of these are relatively new festivals. Kalibo Ati-atihan dates back to 1212 AD. It has been acknowledged as the Mother of all Philippine Festivals, and Asia’s answer to the Mardi Gras. What makes the Ati-atihan unique is that unlike other festivals, there is no choreography, just unbridled merry-making and street dancing. It was so much fun that it even won in the Cayman Islands and Filipino communities especially in the North America celebrates Kalibo Ati-atihan themselves – Chicago, Toronto, New York (Yes even in Times Square), San Francisco and even guested in the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena.
Let’s celebrate the festivals, unity in diversity right? Let’s just not think of Iloilo or Cebu or this province or that region. Before we are Ilonggos or Cebuanos or Tagalogs, we should remember that we are Filipino first and foremost.
See you tomorrow at Aliwan!
Ps. Having said that, I am looking forward to see Panagbenga and the Kalilangan. I’ve only seen them in photos and on TV but never live. Should be fun. Too bad, Masskara is not participating too.

Lapay Bantigue Dance Festival- It is celebrated annually during the City Anniversary on 30th day of September. This event highlights the traditional folk dance created by “Lola Felisa” many years ago, when she imitated the graceful movement of the seagull (locally known as Lapay). The dance has evolved and is now recognized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines as one of the official folk dances of the country.

I hope other big media networks could tie up with Aliwan Festival organizers, so it could reach out globally. After all we are all Filipinos and this is one thing we have that we should be proud of. Go Aliwan, looking forward to next year’s more success. It’s really great watching it.
i was very disappointed with the live streaming of aliwan. i think it’s bec of many people watching it at d same time. datz y its quality from d rhtv homepage is too poor.
but at least i hve a glimpse. its almost like a still picture.
Anyways, congratz to bugogan festival of the municipality of abuyog Province of Leyte. and to their choreographer who happens to be a native of cebu city.
congratz. i also like tribu kasag though.(i really love dem).
cebu city resident.
uhm, masasabi ko lang noh, buyogan deserved to win. choreographer: victor cuenco, cebuano. siloy festival: fourth place, good finish. sian elizabeth maynard: aliwan festival queen 2009. kasag festival: copycat of palawod festival of bantayan, cebu. kuns sumali ang palawod, malamang, hindi makapasok ang dinagyang sa top three. mas-colorful yata yung palawod. and to think, palawod won first place sa pasigarbo 2008 ans siloy won fourth lang. how much more kung ipinadala talaga yung pambato. sayang, yung mga real pambato ng cebu hindi ipinadala. uhm well, despite the “unapplauded” performance of siloy this year sa sinulog, which was more-or-less the same performance during the aliwan, it was adjudged as fourth place. congrats! to think, if siloy showed their performance which gave them their first place finish in sinulog 2008, they could have been in the top three! anyway, cebuanos are happy for you. stay humble unlike the sour grapers around. accept the victory. as i have seen your festival in alcoy, you have done well to prove yourself.
still, i stand by my comment. kasag was copycat from palawod. wait ’till makasali ang palawod kapag may chance!
Kasag festival of Banate,Iloilo was older than Palawod festival of Bantayan,Cebu.
suprememaster,
Excuse me CONCERNED. ANG YABANG MO!…your one of the people in the Philippines that causing division in the country. TIGILAN NYO NA NGA YAN!…puwede b usapang pang educated lng please. If your educated enough, you should know how to appreciate the cultures of other regions has. Each festivals has its own forte. Yes, I salute the festivals that CEBU has,.. TRULY WORLD CLASS!. Likewise, the other festivals that represented their respective regions do the same…However, with the people like you, naku…magtayo kayo ng sariling festival. You and the other “crab mentalities”. Tapos kayo din magpurihan, OK? Don’t get me wrong. Im not against Cebu’s festivals. Like what I said maipagmamalaki naman talaga kasi world class….ALIWAN is not about CEBU. Its about the Philippines as a country. (Congratulations to Buyugan, Kasag, and Dinagyang – Itaas ang banderang Pilipinas!) Althea – Hawaii
Congratz to all ILOILO Contingents Basta Iloilo may Quality talaga at very strong ang Caliber palagi at consistent. Kaya nga Dinagyang naman ako sa 2010 eh see you nalang ulit mga taga Iloilo.Mabuhay kayo
Congrats to all the winners of Aliwan Lalo na sa Iloilo Contengents din. Mabuhay

no. 1 is sinulog of cebu city, no. 2 is masskara of bacolod city, no.3 is pinagbenga (saan ba ‘yon), and no. 4 is ati-atihan of kalibo aklan.
