Panaad sa Negros Festival 2009 opened with a big bang!
Posted by on April 22, 2009
Last Thursday, I went back to Bacolod to cover the annual Panaad sa Negros Festival in Bacolod. I arrived two days ahead of the scheduled opening to process my Media ID at the Provincial Capitol to have some free time with friends.

Saturday afternoon, I went to the Panaad Park and Stadium early at around 2PM. People were already staring to pouring in to experience this annual celebration.
At around 3PM, festival dancers from various towns and cities started to assemble at the Panaad Stadium for the Best of Festivals Competition.

The opening ceremonies promptly started at 4PM, with no less than the Governor of Negros Occidental, Isidro Zayco welcoming the crowd, and declaring the Panaad sa Negros 2009 officially open.

After that, Department of Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta then intruduced the guest during the afternoon’s opening program, Hon. Joseph Ace Durano, the Secretary of the Department of Tourism.
After the brief speech, the muses of each town were introduced to the public who will be vying for the title “Lin-ay sang Negros”.

The Best of Festivals competition then followed with 23 competing groups and one guest performer
The night was capped with a grand fireworks display.

Panaad sa Negros is an annual gathering of towns and cities of Negro Occidental in a weeklong fiesta of trade fairs, food fests, agro industrial exhibits, beauty contest, street dancing, sport competitions, cultural shows and a whole lot more.

People would normally flock to Panaad to experience and sample the best of each town without having the need to travel.
