The DBP RORO Race 2009 Diary

April 1, 2009 -
I got a call from PR friend Blooey and asked me if I want to cover the 2009 DBP RORO Race. Without any second thought I agreed! I was so excited to cover this year’s bonggang race event hosted by DBP. But suddenly something came into my mind.
APRIL 1 IS APRIL FOOL’S DAY!!! Hay, I just hope that Blooey wasn’t just playing a trick on me. LOL
To make the long story short, it really wasn’t a joke at all. Blooey said that the race is going to be held much earlier compared to last year, so that lesser rains would be experienced, and hopefully, no more delayed RORO trips.
May 14 - We were supposed to fly on this day from Manila to Surigao to cover the event, but a day before the flight, Blooey informed us that we have to move our travel to May15th. Buti na lang! Because I still haven’t packed my bag yet.

Team Island Hoppers: Serena Dalrymple, with best friends Taj Almonte and Kix Lagria

Finally, we were able to fly from Manila to Cebu, then Cebu to Siargao. We were forced to take a connecting flight since all the other flights to Surigao is already fully booked. But that’s OK I won’t complain. The bottomline is, I’M FINALLY OFF TO SIARGAO!
May 15′s also the Race Day 1. The ten teams were already making their way to the pit stop when we arrived. I was like a fish out of the tank that time. I only knew Melo who joined me on the flight, and Blooey, all the rest are strangers to me.
Later on, I was able to mingle with the race crew, and the racers, and everybody else.
The fun part is just about to start. When the Leg 1 in Siargao was over, Serenea Dalrymple’s team ended up as the bottom, but luckily it was a non-elimination leg so they still got to join us in the next destination pitstop: Camotes Island.
That same night we left Surigao and headed to Maasin, Southern Leyte.

Cokaliong RORO bound for Maasin.
