May 16 – Maasin Leyte

5AM Call time. Early breakfast. and very long land travel awaits us as we are scheduled to go to Ormoc City.

Upon arrival we did the usual courtesy call to the DBP branch then head to a bar for our quick lunch. After the meal, Joaqui Tupas of Team Surf Riders asked all the other racers to join the Trip to Jerusalem game. Then the DBP officers gladly handed some cash prizes to the game winners. It was just spontaneous. Everybody had so much fun. And it was really a good way to beat the afternoon death hour.

Later that afternoon, we took another RORO trip and this time, we were headed to Camotes Island.

But right after we left Ormoc, another challenge awaits the racers. This time to finish the 144-piece square puzzle. The last team to finish would be eliminated. It was a hard task. I myself would have a hard time in doing it.

At the end of the challenge, Serena’s team were the last to check in at the pit stop, and thus they were eliminated.

At around 7PM we arrived in Camotes Island. I was so disappointed because it was already dark when we arrived, so I have no idea how the island look like during day time. I heard a lot of good stories about camotes Island and how beautiful it is but, sadly, I wasnot able to experience it.

In Camotes Island, only 9 teams competed. Their was catch fishes in a marked area. But the problem is, the road leading to that area is uphill and dark. So all the racers were really had a hard time in completing the challenge. The Team Beach Squad composed of Tunat and Nat-nat Hildawa with their celebrity partner Hazel Cabrera were eliminated in this leg.

Right after the challenge we left Camotes Island then head to Danao City in Cebu.

Cebu lechon and Tuna sahimi was the highlight of our sumptuous dinner. Everybody loved the province’s signature roasted pig. Sarap talaga!

We stayed in Danao for a night before heading again to our next destination.

MAY 17 – 5AM Call Time

From Danao left move to Toledo City and took a RORO bound for San Carlos City. Upon docking, the Pintaflores Festival Dancers greeted us at the port. I was really so excited at this leg. I know I am just a few kilometers away from Bacolod, my dear hometown.

Even before we docked in San Carlos, I was already planning to sneak out of the race and eat blueberry in, hmmmm, where else, but Calea!

Alam nyo naman kung gaano ako ka adik sa Calea! and I don’t deny that! hahaha

But Blooey asked her tita to just buy her slices of Calea instead and meet her in one of our destinations.

Since San Carlos City is known for its peanuts, the challenge is also related to it. the eight teams were tasked to crack open 1 kilo of peanuts before they get to their next challenge which is to learn the basic steps of Pintaflores Dance. I didn’t know that Pintaflores has a standard step. I thought it was just like Masskara or the Ati atihan where you can just create your own choreography.

Team Flipflops with Dino Gilladoga, Ace Cu and Cassandra Ponti got elimiated after they were the last to arrive at the pit stop.

From Sancarlos City, we went to Don Salvador Benedicto for a hearty lunch at the home of Mayor Nene Dela Cruz. From there, we then went to Hua Ming for the Sunday Mass. While the racers where inside the church, Blooey, Melo ate Gail, Serena, Gian Carlo and I went to Kuppa for a quick caffeine fix and enjoy our Calea Cakes. As always, OA sa sarap!

After the mass we then head straight to the port for our next travel adventure: Iloilo City
