May 20-

After getting enough sleep we woke up in the town of Lian Batangas, specifically in its most popular Barangay: Matabungkay. Matabungkay is a popular beach destination in this part Batangas.

Early in the morning the racers were released to do the first challenge: drink a piping hot Kapeng Barako, a known product from the province of Batangas. From there, they then proceeded to another block and catch a live pig. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see the action as it happened. After the hog racing challenge, teams were then tasked to paddle a balsa (wooden raft) to the sea and back.

Team Fun Explorers composed of Nicole Uysiuseng, and surfer brother JP and Aston Sarmiento became the leg winner while team Heat Blasters (couple Jo Ignacio and Marf Marfori with teen star Eda Nolan were eliminated after they became the last team to arrive at the pit stop.

After the challenge, the teams enjoyed their free time by swimming at the hotel pool. Little did they know that another challenge awaits them.

And at around 10:30AM the teams were released one minute apart, and their next task: commute from Matabungkay in any way (except taxi) and proceed to the Luneta Park in Manila. It really was an exciting challenge seeing all the teams hailing for tricycles going to the bus stops.

At the Luneta Park, teams were tasked to locate the giant relief map of the Philippines and mark the places where we have been to. From there, they were asked to take a cab going to Buendia-Reposo Street in Makati city for another stop.

All in all, the DBP RORO Race has ben a big success. The trip is so fun from Siargao up until we arrived at the DBP Makati office. I am so glad to be part of this years coverage team. Many thanks to Blooey and Leny!
