Have you made your own Havaianas?

Posted on May 29, 2009

Early yesterday, I went to the Rockwell tent to Make my Own Havaianas. Maye your own Havaianas is an annual event where Havaianaticos (Fans of Havaianas) gather to assemble a fully customized pair of flipflops: from the sole, to its straps and even the embellishments on its straps.

The media and the bloggers were actually invited to the event last tuesday. But since I was out of Manilaz for almost one week, I was not able to join my fellow bloggers in their adventure to create the cutest fully customized Havaianas pair!

So off I went to the Rockwell Tent yesterday at around 11AM. I got the shock of my life when the line leading to the Tent is so long. I’d estimate at least an hour’s worth of sunbathing s needed before I can get inside the selling area.

This is actually my first time to try Make my own Havaianas, though I have had several pairs before, but not the customized one. I was just sop totally amazed that I can totally control how my flipflops would look like. I took me quite some time before I have finally decided on my flipflop’s sole and strap colors. I have to try and test all color possibilities by rotating the roulette which has the sole on its first layer, and the assorted straps on the second layer.

after that, I have to chose which limited edition pins or gemstones should I place on my sandal straps. What I actually like in this year’s Make your own Havaianas 2009 is that they added a local flavor to make the flipflops more Pinoy. Assorted pins are available like jeepneys, sorbetes cart, tarsier, vinta, Philippine map, a NOYPI sign, other pins including cameras, beach, old TV,and a whole lot more.

For my flip flops, I picked a black diamond to be studded beside the Havaianas logo, and at the other end, the Noypi pin. on the other side of the strap the jeepney and vinta alternate each other. I picked the Gray sole and the silver gray metallic strap.

It was really fun seeing how they assembled my Havaianas flipflops from scratch. Many many thanks to the people from Havaianas Philippines and many many thanks also to Nix! :D

I haven’t tried making my own customized havaianas simply because already have 2 and haven’t even maximized using both, haha.

Just wanna ask, how much does a customized flipflops costs?
