Dipolog’s Pagsalabuk and Sibutad’s Kinason Festivals declared as the best in Hudyaka Zanorte 2009

I knew this is going to happen. My bets for the Hudyaka Zanorte all won the contest! Dipolog City’s P’gsalabuk Festival emerged as the best in streetdancing competition. P’gsalabuk is a festival of unity among the Muslims, Filipinos and the Subanon. Their performance during the streetdance contest reminded me of the Sinanduloy Cultural Dance Troupe’s performance in Sinulog. Very graceful and precise.
While on the Festival showdown competition, the Kinason Festival of Sibutad, Zamboanga Del Norte won the first prize trophy. When I saw their blocking rehearsals a night before the competition itself, I knew that this group has a very big chance of winning.

Dipolog City’s Pagsalabuk Festival
I like how they were able to effectively use their props. especially the kaing (basket) and the bilao.
They were well applauded especially when they were performing the routine with the kaing. Though this routine is not new, (I have seen this before in Meguyaya Festival from Upi Maguindanao) their execution is near perfect.
2nd place is the town of Polanco and the third placer is Dipolog City.

Lumad Basakanon performing under the name of Siocon Zanorte
3-time Hudyaka Festival Winner (and defending champion) from the town of Siocon who is represented by Cebu’s Lumad Basakanon lost in this year’s contest.
I knew they’re going to have a hard time in convincing the judges because of their lackluster performance. Their dance routine last weekend has no Wow Factor. I just hope that they would improve their routines more and re-invent their costume design.
But what really puzzles me is that why the Town of Siocon imports a dance troupe just to perform for their town’s name. People know who Lumad Basakanon is. They are popular in the street dancing field. They have been the Champion of Sinulog Free Interpretation category at least twice and has won the Aliwan Fiesta crown three straight years. But why go to Zamboanga del Norte and dance their as if they are from the town of Siocon? And dance they did, using the same costume and almost similar routine they had in Sinulog 2009.
More photos and videos soon!

wait — what, you can import dancers from other cities to dance in your name at competitions?! there should be a rule against that :/
i mean, what’s the point in winning if the dancers aren’t even from your town? there’s no pride in that :/
bakit naman nag import2x pah ang taga Siocon??.. iba parin yung lahing cultura na isasayaw… eh sa Lumad Basakanon naman pang sinulog style talaga yung concept nila. Sayang maganda pa naman sana ang mga taga Cebu!
oh well… this is already the 4th time that siocon did this.
Fortunalte or Unfortunately, (however you look at it) they lost in this years contest.
Ric, why is it that everytime you go to the feasts your bet is always make it either Top 5 to Top 3 in the competition, hehe! Malakas ang vibrations mo, hehe!
i would not be surprised. sinanduloy cultural troupe of tangub city was also hired by this town a few years back to as they hosted the ZPRAA. i heard that the troupe was required to say that they were really performers from siocon. very poor accommodation and water was a big problem. a highly politicized town. brownout happened during the opening night of the ZPRAA where sinanduloy was about to perform.
