Zamboanga Del Norte celebrates Hudyaka Zanorte 2009!

Posted by on June 11, 2009

Last Weekend I traveled to the province of Zamboanga del Norte to experience the Hudyaka Zanorte 2009. Hudyaka Zanorte is held in celebration of the province’s founding anniversary. This year Zamboanga del Norte, or fondly called by the locals as Zanorte, is celebrating her 57th year as a province.

During the past Hudyaka Festivals, the event is held in the province’s capital city, Dipolog. But this year, the provincial government has decided to move the fiesta celebration to the Shrine City of Dapitan.

Hudyaka Zanorte is somewhat similar to the Panaad sa Negros, the provincial tourism event of Negros Occidental.

There are also booths allocated for each town where they can sell their local produce, some have made the booth walls into a photo exhibit gallery promoting the best of their respective towns, while some cooked fresh specialty foods for the people to enjoy. Every night, various groups would perform at the Hudyaka Site to entertain the crowd.

Unlike Panaad, the booths in Hudyaka is not permanent so everything is disassembled on the morningh after the 10-day fiesta. While the booths in Panaad sa Negros are all made of concrete and is just there at the Panaad park all year round.

But what is good with this year Hudyaka is that the Festival site is located right at the Sunset Boulevard. The view of the Sunset Boulevard in Dapitan during late afternoon is simply breathtaking.

Crowd starts to swell in number during the sunset time then it would peak during dinner time.

During the last day of the Hudyaka Zanorte Festival 2009, a streetdance which was participated by 21 town festivals was held in the morning, passing through the major streets of Dapitan. And in the afternoon, the Festival showdown was held at the Jose Rizal Memorial State College.

The fiesta celebration was capped by the announcement of winners and a grand fireworks display at the Hudyaka Site.
