CineManila 2009 International Filmfest launched!

The Cinemanila International Film Festival 2009 ushers in its 11th year at its new home at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Presented by the City of Taguig and the Cinemanila International Film Festival Foundation, this year’s edition once again boasts of an impressive line-up of 100 international and local films – from the current toasts of the local indie scene to the award-winners and favourites at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Sundance, and Pusan. Running from October 15-25, the festival will also feature workshops, seminars and master classes.
Cannes Palme d’Or Best Director Brillante Mendoza will be heading the Main Competition Jury of this year’s Cinemanila International Film Festival2009.
Mexican actor Diego Luna has confirmed his attendance to the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival. Luna is best known for his controversial role in Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001) alongside fellow Mexican Gael Garcia Bernal.
Some of his other notable works include Amores Perros (2000), Nicotina (2003), Rudo Y Cursi (2008), and most recently, Milk (2008), where he starred opposite Sean Penn as his obsessed lover. Luna is also the co-founder of Canana Films together with Garcia Bernal and Pablo Cruz.
Luna’s directorial debut, Chavez, is a documentary about Mexican boxer Juan Carlos Chavez. It was produced by Garcia Bernal and Canana Films. The film will be screening at this year’s Cinemanila.
The festival is currently accepting entry applications. Interested parties may submit their entries to any of the following categories: Main Competition (international features), Southeast Competition (features and shorts), Digital Lokal (Philippine full-length digital films), Young Cinema (Philippine short films), Documentary (international) and its newest section, Machinima (international). All other films not selected for Competition are still eligible for exhibition.
