First time in Lovely Liloan!
Posted by on October 14, 2009
Lilo-an is a town around 45 minutes away from Cebu City it s located on the eastern coast of Cebu Island. I was supposed to go to Liloan last August and wander around town, but plans changed at the last minute. Finally, last October 5, 2009, I was able to walk around the lovely town of Liloan.
Liloan is known to be the home of the original Rosquillos. That ring-shaped uniquely flavored biscuits that has been a popular pasalubong among tourists and balikbayans.
And when we say Rosquillos, there’s only one and original. And that’s the Titay’s Original Rosquillos. And do you know that this sweet delight was named by no less than the Cebuano Philippine President Sergio Osmeña? The biscuits were named after “Roscu” or ringlets.
Titay’s have been in the business since 1907. They have been baking delicious delicacies even before my grandma was born!
Today, a quaint cafe, eatery and pasalubong center can be found at the poblacion area of Liloan, Cebu.
Another popular landmark in Liloan that I was able to visit is the Church dedicated to San Fernando Rey.
The church is said to have been built in 1847. The main materials used in building the church is limestone.
One of the unique features of this church is that it faces the mountains on the west, while most of the churches in the country faces the east or the seas.
Many have theorized that this was done in order to shield the parishioners from the early morning sun when hearing Mass.
