Visiting the Heritage town of Carcar Cebu
Posted by on December 7, 2009
While I was in Cebu last October, I decided to drop by the heritage town of Carcar in the south. The southern trail of Cebu really is so rich of cultural treasures. History buffs would love Southern Cebu.
Carcar is like one big museum. old houses are everywhere. the Church of Santa Catalina sits on top of a hill, beside it is the Carcar Dispensary.
Carcar is used to be called Kabkad. It is a type of fern that grows abundantly in this town. Later on the name was changed to Carcar.
A visit to this town will never be complete without sampling its popular products like chicharon and ampao.
Carcar was elevated to become a city in 2007, but a year later, the Supreme Court of the Philippine overturned this decision.
Until now the heritage town of Carcar still amazes tourists who visits this place. One can just marvel at how grand the structures here.
Carcar is just an hour and a half bus or VHire away from Cebu City. this is a perfect sidetrip itinerary for thos who will be going to the Sinulog 2010!
