A Glimpse of Patapat Viaduct
Posted by on December 27, 2009
I have heard of Patapat Viaduct several times before, but just like the Cape Bojeador in Burgos Ilocos Norte, I have also not been to this place before.
Patapat Viaduct is an elevated highway located along the winding roads of Ilocos Norte leading to the province of Cagayan.
It is said to be the second northernmost roadway in the island of Luzon. The viaduct was built to minimize the landslides which has aused seveal road mishaps in the past.
The bridge is more than one kilometer in length. Many tourists would often take a quick stop on the bridge for photo op.
The view of the South China Sea from the Patapat viaduct is really breathtaking. The large waves pounding on the rocks reminds of my Batanes trip last year.
From Patapat we were supposed to go to the Blue Lagoon to swim, but the weather is not cooperating. Immediately upon arrival at the Blue Lagoon, heavy rains fall. As if there was no tomorrow. So we really no other choice but to go back to the resort for an uber-late merienda and dinner.
I just hope I can go back to Ilocos Norte next year and experience the secret cove the Ilocanos call Th Blue Lagoon.
