A short stroll at the Bakhawan Mangrove Eco Park in Kalibo

Last December 3, I flew from Manila to the Ati-atihan town of Kalibo. Immediately after lunch, I went out and explore the Bakhawan Mangrove Eco Park in Brgy. New Buswang Kalibo.

Bakhawan Eco Park is a good example of a partnership between the community, the local government units, and the NGOs.

A bamboo-made walkway measuring 850 meters in length can give you a good view of the lush mangroves. The end point of the walkway gives you a good view of the Kalibo beach.

When I visited the Bakhawan Eco park recently, I heard several birds chirping. I have seen some flying from one mangrove to another. I am not familiar with the bird species found in Bakhawan, but I am pretty sure they are not the maya we get to see oftentimes.

Mangroves are always good for the fishes. They would normally live under the mangrove’s roots.

The Eco-park is approximately 170 hectares wide. It has a souvenir shop near the entrance gate and a small store at the end of the walkway. There are also some cottages scattered at the are, perfect for family picnic or barkada weekend outings.

The Bakhawan Park is open daily from 8AM to 5PM, including weekends and holidays.
