Cebu Sinulog Festival 2010 Opening

The Cebu Sinulog Festival 2010 is officially open! Earlier today, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña welcomed thousands of cheering crowd at the Abellana Sports Complex during the official opening ceremony. Also in attendance is Cebu City Vice May and Sinulog Foundation chair Michael Rama.
This year Cebuanos are making all the extra effort to celebrate the Sinulog 201o more meaningful, more colorful, and more grandiose as 2010 marks the 30th year of Sinulog Festival.
The opening ceremonies started with a novena mass at around 2PM at the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino, which was then followed by a short streetdance performed by 15 schools from around Cebu City. Unlike the traditional sinulog Streetdance Parade, the sparade this afternoon, used a taped music featuring the Sinulog beat.
More and more activities are now lined up leading to the grand highlight of the festival slated on January 17, 2010.
Tomorrow, students from various towns of Cebu province will be competing at the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan, where the top 5 winners will be eligible to join the highlights on the final day of the fiesta.

I still prefer the “Ati-Atihan” in Kalibo than the Sinulog festival in Cebu. Probably because our family originated from Aklan.
Maybe it’s just me but Ati-Atihan is more visited by foreign tourist because it’s also near to Boracay.

[agkatapos ng sinulog at ati-atihan ang mga turista na galing ng cebu at aklan ay mag kitakita sa the Dinagyang idi mas marami pla ang mga turista sa dinagyang ^^, kitakits nalang sa Aliwan 2010 ^^,

sinulog is the original or the first festival and cebu is the first christian place at yung ibang gumaya lng
sa mga taong akala nila ang dinagyang ang mas maraming turista. pls kindly provide sources or links to support your claim. sinulog has always been the TOP tourism attraction according to DOT and MCIA stats ever since because it is the grandest, biggest and highly anticipated festival in the country. some people might think sinulog is getting commercialize, yes i believe it is but its religious aspect is not dwindling or fading rapidly bec. its the cebuanos love for the holy child that kept the tradition alive until this point. many have witnessed cebuanos devotion is overwhelming and the massive commercialization of sinulog somehow gave cebu the edge over other festivals in luring tourists to come to the philippines.
