Three weekends of Three Festivals
Posted by on January 13, 2010
I just got back from the Sinulog sa Kabataan in Cebu City. The Sinulog sa Kabataan is usually held a week before the sinulog Festival Grand Parade. The event is participated by schools from all over the province as well as around Cebu city.
This year we saw 32 groups competed last weekend. The Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan and Dakbayan gives a good sneak preview of what to expect in the upcoming Sinulog Festival Grand Parade.
This is my first time to cover the sinulog sa Kabataan and I am truly amazed at the high-energy performances of the groups.
And this next weekend, January 16-17, I will be off to Kalibo to cover the Mother of Festivals which is the Ati-atihan Festival 2010. This year the Ati-atihan is celebrating the 798th edition of the festival.
This is also my first time witness Ati-atihan. I am so excited to go back to Kalibo again and witness the country’s oldest fiesta. I will be traveling to Kalibo with Fitz and Don. this is going to be the third time that we’re traveling out of Manila together. First was during the Masskara Festival in Bacolod last October, and recently during the Ligligan Parul in San Fernando, Pampanga.
After the Ati-atihan, I will be traveling to Bacolod City for a quick break, then on the fourth weekend of January (January 22) I will be taking a ferry bound to Iloilo for the annual celebration of Dinagyang Festival 2010. I have been present in every Dinagyang celebration since 2005. Although I am in Iloilo every January, the excitement of seeing the tribes perform to loud drum beats still excite me. And the thrill of taking photographs in Dinagyang is something that I always look forward to. Dinagyang Festival is one of the hardest fiestas to shoot. This is beacause the choreography is so fast, and you do not know what happens next. So you just have to click click and click.
This is a thee dizzying weekends. Tiring but uber fun! This is the first time that I am also covering these three grand events all in one calendar year.
To all my dear readers, Viva Pit Senyor! Hala Bira! Viva Senor Santo Nino!

Tiring as it may seem but celebrating life and culture is something that quenches our soul. Naks!
