Cebu Sinulog Festival Queen 2010

The Sinulog Festival queen is probably the most photographed dancer in a Sinulog contingent. It is always easy to spot them: they always have the most elaborate and very detailed costume. their headress are always big and colorful and they are the ones carrying the image of the Santo Nino.

Every year a pageant is held to crown the best festival queen among the competing groups for this Sunday’s grand parade. Unlike a beauty pageant, the sinulog festival queen is a test of talent and skills especially in carrying the holy image of the Santo Nino. They should know how to properly hold it, just like an infant, but at the same time, still has the grace and poise in dancing to the Sinulog beat. Since they are the lead dancer, they also have to posses some leadership skills in maintaining order in their contingent during the parade.
And just a few minutes ago a new festival Queen has been Crowned. And I am more than elated to learn that this year’s festival queen is from my province of Negros Occidental! More details soon.
