San Joaquin Cemetery in Iloilo

I have been passing by this cemetery several times when going to the San Joaquin Church. The San Joaquin Cemetery in Iloilo, Philippines can’t be easily missed as it is located right beside the highway.
The cemetery was built in 1892 and is considered as one of the most beautiful in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. The gate is made of wrought iron with some carved stone embellishments on its front.
a flight of 20 steps will lead you to the mortuary chapel, which is I guess the main centerpiece of the cemetery. The chapel is just so beautiful! The octagonal chapel (or camposanto) is designed with Classical motifs. Intricately carved designs can be found all over the 8-sided chapel
The chapel is usually used for blessing the dead before it is interred. The red pointed dome of the chapel completes the whole grandeur of the chapel.

A Cemetery right beside a church? We don’t see that a lot nowadays.
Nice place though, a good spot for getting pictures for an article in a magazine or a venue for movie making.
his is one of my most favorite cemeteries in the country.
I’ve been there years ago…it’s was indeed beautiful…the beaches nearby were really beautiful too…especially you do not step on the sand, instead rocks. Fishing is also good to do there…
Nice photos, thanks sharing too!GB
