BacoLaoDiat Day 2: Bacolod City Chinese New Year Celebrations
Posted by on February 14, 2010
Last night, I went back to the Tourism Strip for the Day2 Celebrations of the Bacolaodiat 2010, The Bacolod City Chinese New Year Celebrations. Various parts of the Philippines are celebrating the Chinese New Year. Among the big celebrations are the ones in Binondo Manila, Iloilo and Bacolod.
A few years back, I celebrated the Chinese New year in Iloilo City, Philippines but this year, I decided to go back home and experience the Bacolaodiat Festival.
Last night I arrived at around 630PM at the Provincial Capitol to meet Audrey and some other college friends from the University of St. La Salle.
From the Capitol grounds, we walked towards the Chopsticks Alley which is the Food Fest site where a large stage was set up at the end of the alley to entertain the crowd.
There were a lot of people there, mostly, Chinoys. While inside the Chopsticks alley, I bought one pack of hopia, as I started to get hungry. I then took my camera out of the bag to start shooting when rain started to pour in.
what a perfect timing. I rained just before the first group performed for the Chinese Lantern Street dance competition. We were left with no other option, but to look for shelter.
While looking for a place, we ended up in L’Sea Chinese Restaurant. so we decided to just dine there.
After our dinner, we went back to the street again to shoot some more. Eight Group performed during the Chinese Lantern Street Dance competition. Honestly, I am a bit disappointed at the performances. I had a high expectations from the performances, but most of them lack the “Wow Factor”. Right after the last group performed, we left the venue and I headed home to catch the Pinoy Big Brother Big Night on TV.
Tonight’s the last day of the Bacolaodiat Festival. Variety Programs are lined up for tonight’s show and a Grand Fireworks Display will cap the 3-day chinese Festival.
I am not sure though I can I still go back to the Tourism Strip since I have a family dinner tonight. tomorrow morning I will be off to the caostal town of Pulupandan, some 45minutes away from Bacolod to cover the Salapan festival.
