Pulupandan Salapan Festival 2010
Posted by on February 16, 2010
Yesterday, I went to the coastal town of Pulupandan, Philippines. Some 45 minutes drive south of Bacolod City. The term Salapan is coined from the root word salap or fish net.
Salapan Festival is a way of thanksgiving for the bountiful catch. Since Pulupandan is a coastal town, majority of its people depend on the bounty of the sea. The annual Salapan Festival is held every February 15th during the town’s annual fiesta.
Aside from street dancing, other activities are also lined up during the week-long celebration like banca race, swimming competition, basketball tournament, trade fairs, and a whole lot more.
The Salapan Festival Streetdancers ranked 4th Place in Last year’s Panaad sa Negros. With the quality of the performance they showed yesterday I wouldn’t be surprised if they will win again.
Last year’s winners were able to successfully defend their crown. Canjusa Elementary School has already won three consecutive wins in the Elementary Category, while Enriqueta Montilla de Esteban Memorial High School won in the High School division.
The two winners will do a showdown sometime next week. The winner of the said showdown will be representing the town in the Panaad sa Negros 2010.
Last year’s representative to the Panaad sa Negros was the Canjusa elemenrary School.
More Salapan Festival Photos coming up….
