3D/2N in the Mystic Island of Siquijor!
Posted by on February 19, 2010
Just recent, Marc and I went to the Mystic Island of Siquijor. For many, Siquijor is always associated with faith healing and supernatural powers. But our trip to Siquijor has a different agenda: Breathtaking island views, white sandy beaches, pristine waters, and quiet countryside life. It is a very different Siquijor compared to the images portrayed by the media.
There are many ways of going to Siquijor. One can either take a ferry from Cebu, Tagbilaran Bohol or Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
But the fastest way of going to the island is via Dumaguete. So I decided to fly from Manila Philippines, going to Dumaguete, and met Marc there then proceeded to Siquijor via Delta Fast Craft.
Fare is about P160, exclusive of terminal fee which is about P15. The trip from Duaguete to Siquijor is quite fast at 45 minutes.
upon arrival in Siquijor, we walked away from the port and headed towards the Siquijor Church, Belfry, and Convent. I am really amazed at its belfry and the convent which has now been converted into a high school building. The convent is located just across the church.
while taking photos, I can no longer contain my inis as tricycle drivers are literally around you asking you to get their services. I am really pissed. I would not be surprised if they also do this to other tourists, and most probably to the foreigners. Nakakahiya.
Since there’s not much transportation available in Siquijor, you will be forced to get their services. For P400 the driver agreed to bring us to Salagdoong in the town of Maria. Salagdoong is around 45 minutes by tricycle.
But to make our trip more efficient and to maximize our travel, we told the driver to stop at the tourist spots if possible.
So after taking the tricycle, we then drove towards the coastal town of Larena. Larena is also a major port of Siquijor. Most ferries from Cebu, and Tagbilaran dock here. It’s only the Dumaguete route that docks in Siquijor town.
In Larena, we visited the Belfry located just across the Church. It’s church is obviously new, and the belfry is actually located inside a school campus. So we need to ask permission from the guard to allow us to take photos of the belfry.
After check in we then headed to the cafeteria to buy lunch then went straight to the beach. When we went there, there were only a few guests checkedin at the hotel. But if I am not mistaken, Marc and I were the only Pinoy in the resort. During our second day, We were the only guest there!
The whole afternoon we did nothing but take photos and sleep on the beach with MP3 player turned on.
During our second day, we had the island tour. and to make the tour more faster, our guide brought habal habal. A motorcycle converted to fit 3-4 passengers. Our island tour is priced P700.
During the tour, we were able to visit the church and belfry of Maria, The church and convent of Lazi, the Cambugahay falls, the church and belfry of San Juan, the San Juan de Capilay Park, the centuries old Balete tree, and the san Juan coastline.
I am particularly amazed at the Lazi Church and convent. It is probably the most popular spot in siquijor that is frequented by tourists. The convent is said to be the largest in Asia.
The San Juan de Capilay is also amazing. I have never seen a town plaza as beautiful as the ones in San Juan!
The Cambugahay Falls is also beautiful. Good thing is that there is a concrete steps going down to the falls. So there will be no more anger of falling off the trail.
When we get back in Salagdoong resort, I just slept in the beach the whole afternoon with my MP3 player. It was almost past 4PM when I woke up.
During our third day, we no longer had any activity except t have breakfast at the resort then speed off to Siquijor to catch our 10AM ferry bound for Dumaguete City.
Habal habal fare from Resort to Siquijor terminal is also P400.
