Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2010

Early morning yesterday, Audrey and I went to the Villa Beach in the District of Arevalo in Iloilo City Philippines to get a glimpse of the Paraw Regatta 2010 Competition.
There were approximately 90 wind-driven sailboats lined up at the shoreline of Villa Beach. A lot photographers were also in the venue to shootthe colorful sails of the Paraw.
Paraw Regatta is considered to be the oldest sailboat racing event in Southeast Asia. It was also voted as the Top Sports Tourism Event by the Association of tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) last year.
This is my second time to witness the Paraw Regatta, and I am always amazed at how this wind-driven were used by the people during the early times.
The annual regatta competition usually starts early in the morning in Villa Beach Iloilo then would sail towards the Guimaras Province then back to Iloilo.
Immediately after the sailboats left the beach, the final judging of the sinamba sa Regatta Competition also started. I judged the Samba competition yesterday morning. check out my separate post about the Sinamba sa Regatta soon.
