Sans Rival Cafe in Dumaguete City

There are certain foods that we always get to associate with cities. It’s like dried mangoes with Cebu or Batchoy with iloilo. In the case of Dumaguete City Philippines it’s the Sans Rival Cake and Sylvannas.

Sans Rival Cafe and Pastry Shop in Dumaguete City is known to be the home of the best tasting Sans Rival and Sylvannas in the Philppines. It is not surprising to see the quaint coffee/pastry shop full of people during lunch time or merienda hours.

When I went to Dumaguete City a few weeks back, I took a tricycle straight from the airport to San Rival Cafe for breakfast. for the first meal of the day, I ordered spaghetti, and 2 sylvannas.

During that time, I really didn’t care much about the spaghetti. I was just so excited for my sylvannas. I just had the pasta just to stuff my hungry tummy.

but the spaghetti was really good. I really enjoyed it so much. and have to savor every strand of pasta. The sauce is smooth. Not too sweet and not too sour. The noodles was perfectly cooked. Al dente, as what many people would describe it.

But the main event of my breakfast is probably the dessert. I have been looking forward to have this treat since I got the plane ticket last October.

And just as expected, the sylvannas is heavenly. Obviously, fresh from the fridge, it is cold, but not freezer-hard, as you may have thought. You can still feel the silkiness of the butter-cream filling.

the feeling of tasting the sylvannas in San rival Cafe is euphoric. and at PHP10 each, it was a great bargain already!

While I was in the middle of my breakfast, Marc arrived at the cafe. He stayed overnite in Kabankalan City, after traveling from iloilo to Bacolod.

As if the heavenly sylvannas weren’t enough. I ordered a slice of San Rival Cake, also one of the bestsellers of the pastry shop. Being a sweet tooth, all I have are praises for the sliced treat.

The San Rival cake has a very delicate flavor of butter and chopped nuts. I love the cake so much!

Aside from the sweet treats, San rival is also known for their home-cooked style cooking. Their lunch fare changes daily which is good so that the patrons won’t easily get sawa with the foods.

When we had our Lunch here upon arrival from Siquijor, I had an order of Chicken Alfredo, 1 Caesar Salad, 1 Rice, and 1 drink for only PHP165. Very good price already for a large service of meal.

It’s no longer a secret why Sans rival Cafe is always full of people. It is the word of mouth that has spread the good flavors of this cafe/restaurant.

they actually have a stall at the Shangri-la Mall in Mandaluyong that sells the same sylvannas. the stall’s name is House of Sylvannas.

    hello Isabella,

Sans Rival is around 15 minutes (more or less). yup you can bring home San Rival to Manila. In fact I brought home several boxes when i went home in manila.

Just make sure to pick it up from Sans rival just before you go to the airport, to maintain its temp. It’s hand carry ha :D
