Siquijor Church and Belfry
Posted by on March 7, 2010
Last February, Marc and I went to the Mystic Island of Siquijor. We traveled to Siquijor from Dumaguete City Philippines via Delta Fast Ferry. Upon arrival in the town of Siquijor, the first attraction that we got to see is the Siquijor Church and Belfry.
The Church in Siquijor is the oldest in the province. The church was built in 1774 using stone. Th Siquijor Church is dedicated to its patron, Saint Francis of Assisi. At the other end of the church is its bell tower. the belfry is separated from the main church structure and overlooks the sea, suggesting that during the olden times, it was also used as a watch tower against the pirates and the raiders.
At the other end of the church is its convento. The church convent is now used as high school building. It is even located inside the school campus. If you want to take photo of the convent, just ask the school security guard that you’re in Siquijor for a vacation, and that you’ll just snap some photos of the convent.
When we arrived in Siquijor it’s almost lunch time and the sun is really scorching hot. So I just took a few photos of the church and waited for Marc to finish inside the tricycle.
How about you? Have you been to Siquijor before? Tell us your experiences here!
