Larena Belfry

I love Siquijor so much. While most province boast of their churches, facade, Siquijor’s gem are its bell towers spread across the entire island. And one of the bell tower we got to visit is the ones in the town of Larena, Siquijor Philippines.
The church of Larena is obviously new. I have no idea what ever happened to its original structure. But what is amazing here is its belfry is still standing after more than a century of guarding the town from the pirates.
Most bell towers in Siquijor were built near the shoreline as these were also used as watch tower or bantayan to guard the people from the pirates and invaders.
The base of the bell tower is made of coral while the top layer of the belfry is made of wood where the bells are kept hung.
The Larena belfry is located right inside a school compound. Just ask the security guard that you are on a holiday vacation and that you will be taking photos of the belfry.
