Cang-isok House Siquijor

One of the historical attractions in the province of Siquijor in Central Visayas Philippines is the Cang-Isok House in the town of Enrique Villanueva.
According to locals, the house has been standing on the beach for more than one hundred years. It is said to be the oldest surviving house in Siquijor and most likely in the entire Visayas region(?).
The house was built using native materials like nipa and bamboo but what probably made it last that long is the use of a local hardwood known as tugas. The house was constructed using stilt-like legs, similar to the Badjao houses commonly found in Zamboanga City and Basilan. It is really amazing how this house was able to withstood the harshness of nature. With an average of 20 typhoons coming to the Philippines, the strong waves of the sea, and the natural wear and tear of the wood after getting soaked in water forever. I hope the local government could rehabilitate or at the very least, maintain this house so that it won’t just fall into ashes.
Although the Cang-Isok House is located at the town of Enrique Villanueva, it is only three klometers away from the capital town of Siquijor.
Dropping by this house is a must when making a tour around the province of Siquijor.

This is a nice picture, makes me want to visit Siquijor
