Maribago Bluewater Day3 Getaway

Posted by on March 18, 2010

Our Day 3 started really early. In fact we received our wake up call at 4:30AM. But right after I hang the phone, I slept again! By 5:30 my phone alarm sounded, but I also turned it off then went back to dreamland. I finally woke up, took shower and had heavy breakfast at 6:30AM.

After breakfast, we then had to check out of Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort then to another paradise: the Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort!

But en route to the island resort, we will be doing an age-old tradition that has always been practiced by many Filipinos during Holy Week: Visita Iglesia.

During our Visita Iglesia, we visited 7 notable churches that are just along the way leading to the town of Oslob. The seven churches that we visited are:

- San Isidro Labrador Church in the town of San Fernando
- Santa Catalina de Alejandria Church in Carcar
- Nuestra Sra del Pilar in Sibonga

- San Guillermo Ermitanio Church in Dalaguete
- San Miguel Arcangel Church in Argao
- Nstra Sra de Patrocino de Maria in Boljoon
- Nstra Sra dela Imaculada Concepcion in Oslob

I have been to two of the seven churches before, but I am very much delighted to visited them again.

When we arrived in Carcar, we took a brief stop at a chicharon market for some pasalubong. I bought half a kilo of Chicharon which I gave to my sister in law in Bacolod.

We also had another break in the town of Argao. But this time we had our merienda of Torta and Sikwate. Torta is like muffin but has a filling tha’ts similar to adobo, and is topped with raisins, while sikwate is the local version of hot chocolate.

I am totally amazed at the beauty of the churches in the Southern Trail of Cebu. These gems must be preserved! The people must be the guardians in protecting these masterpieces.

Horrible Argao Retablo!

The only church I never liked is Argao. What the parish priest did to its retablo is just plain horrific. Watch out my separate post about Argao.

One of the churches I was really intrigued to see is the Church in Oslob. Just a few days after Holy Week in 2008, the church was gutted by fire. Everything was burned and what was left were its facade, coral stone walls and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

From Oslob town we then headed to Bancogon, which is still part of Oslob to take the ferry bound for Sumilon Island.

Sumilon bluewater Island Resort is really beautiful! White sand, aquamarine waters, good food, and exhilirating view of Cebu and Negros Oriental!

We arrived very late so we had our lunch at around 4PM. after sunset we had our cocktails at the sandbar followed by a buffet dinner with cultural presentation featuring some Filipino songs and dances. The foreigners who were also at the resort during our stay really enjoyed the native dances.

Right after dinner we had our karaoke session.Oh well, who doesn’t love karaoke, right? We all had so much fun that night. I went back to my roon at around 12:30AM. I heard Melo and Ronald from Manila Bulletin ended their singing spree at 3AM. I guess everyone had a good night.

Though i went back to my room at 12:30AM, I only slept at around 2:00AM after checking emails, uploading photos, and updating Facebook status.
