Review: Jansport SPUR Backpack
Posted by on March 20, 2010
I have been using the Jansport SPUR backpack design for quite some time now. One of the thing I instantly like with Spur is the curved shape of the strap. It gives a better backpack support but at the same time better feel on your back.

The Biovent Technology used on its straps provide better breathing space between you and the backpack straps. You can actually see from the mesh on the straps, and even feel it, that it’s not just a solid foam that’s been used for the back strap. This is I guess one of the selling points of Spur, in my opinion.
The bag has three zippered compartment, plus 1 small zippered pocket, just under the straps, just like a secret pocket.
I normally use the front compartment for my documents, laptop cable, cellphone charger, coin purse, plane ticket and anything small. When a bag gets doused in water, the front compartment is always the first one to get wet. But when I was in El Nido Palawan, Philippines recently, the bag was splashed with a large wave but good thing, everything inside the bag is safe and dry.
I always use the second compartment for laptop. Since the compartment is small (a little bigger than the front compartment), The laptop would just perfectly fit in here. If I go out of the house without the laptop, I normally reserve the second compartment for extra shirts, or for pasalubong shopping.
The third compartment has the biggest storage capacity of them all and is directly on you back. I would normally place my DSLR on this slot, together with some scarf. I normally line my third compartment with a thick scarf as an added protection.
Spur also has 2 slots for water bottles on its side. Perfect for travelers like me who just need to rehydrate while walking.
There’s also a side compression strap which is used to keep the whole backpack close to your body and minimize its swaying movement while walking.
Overall, I am really satisfied with SPUR. I am very comfortable using it. The only downside of SPUR is its side compression strap which sometimes snap out. This is because the plastic thingie (however you call that) that connects the compression strap to the back strap has open sides. This sometimes lead to the snapping out of the compression strap.
Jansport is available in all The Travel Club Outlets, and major department stores nationwide. Jansport is the Official Backpack provider of BYAHILO.
