Revisiting Mines View Park
Posted by on June 14, 2010
Last week, I was in Baguio City to unwind and once again experience the cool weather in what is also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines. Mines View Park is one of the very first places I visited during my recent visit.
Honestly, I’m not really that excited in going back to Mines View. Contrary to its name, there’s no mine to see in the area. It used to have one, many many many ears ago.
According to stories the area below the Mines View used to be a mining area, thus its name. But through the years, the area has been converted into a residential area and one public cemetery.
Although there’s nothing really much to see in Mines View, the place is still one of the top destinations in Baguio, or shall I say, top tourist traps. Nothing new to offer, with so many vendors peddling souvenir items, while some offer souvenir photo wearing Igorot costumes for a fee, or ride a horse or pose with a large dog, for a fee too.
I didn’t stay long in Mines View, I just stayed there for around 5-10 enjoying the cool breeze and observing the crazy reactions of people making “pa-picture”. I went there on a Thursday morning, but I was a bit surprised to see the placed still crowded with people.
Postscript: My accommodations in Baguio was compliments of Microtel Baguio
