Quick Stopover at the Price Mansion
Posted by on July 5, 2010
The Price Mansion is one of places we got to visit during our recent trip to Tacloban City Philippines. When I went to Tacloban City two years ago, I only passed by the place. Not even taking a photo of it. But last week, I have been so lucky since we got to get inside the mansion.
The mansion was originally built by Walter Scott Price. The mansion played a significant role in Philippine History as it became the headquarter of American General Douglas McArthur.
Currently, the mansion is under the administration of College Assurance Plan (CAP), and is now known as CAP Building.
When CAP acquired the property, they made sure that the room where General Douglas Mc Arthur stayed will be retained ans converted into a museum. The room contains US and Philippine Flags, old photos, a replica of the general’s four-poster bed, and some letters.
The mansion looks really nice in white. But what is just so sad is the fact that the Price Mansion (or the CAP Building) shows some signs of neglect. There are some areas of the house that were just left to decay. I hope this mansion won’t become a one big buffet feast for the termites. I hope the CAP Administration, City Government of Tacloban and the Province of Leyte would work hand in hand to preserve this importance piece of our history.
I hope that the future generation could still set their foot in this house, and not just read about this mansion in their school books.
