Paraw Regatta Festival 2011 Schedule

Iloilo City Philippines is scheduled to host the 39th edition of the annual Paraw Regatta 2011! Paraw Regatta is said to be the oldest sailboat racing in the Southeast Asian Region.

Paraw is a wind driven sailboat. During the early times, the paraw is used as a mode of transportation. Carrying people and goods from one point to another. Today paraw is very common in beaches for sunset cruises especially in the tropical paradise known as Boracay.

What makes Paraw Regatta even more eye catching is that its sails or layag is painted with very beautiful artwork. Every year the theme varies so designs on the layag also changes.

The during the competition, the paraw would sail from the shores of Villa beach in Iloilo, cross the Guimaras Strait, then make a U Turn in Guimaras, then back to Iloilo.

Aside from the sailboat racing, other activities are also lined up like beach volley ball competition, and the Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta Streetdancing Competition where students from various schools would outdo each other through samba dances.

This year, the Festival schedule is slated February 13-21, 2011. The Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta Pre Finals (Evening) Competition will be held on February 17. The final judging will be held on February 20. The famed Paraw Regatta sailboat competition will be held on the morning of February 20 along Villa Beach in Iloilo City.
