Minor Basillica of Our Lady of Piat

Another important destination to visit in the province of Cagayan is the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Pia. (Pronounced as Pyat, and not Peeh-yat, as I earlier thought).

Piat is a popular pilgrimage site where throngs of devotees would come to this little town to pay home to Our Lady to seek intercession, or would sometime ask for petitions or thanksgiving.
It was a Sunday Lunchtime when Marc and I went to Piat, and there were only a few people inside the church when we visited.
The pilgrimage to Our Lady of Piat has been in existence for centuries now and has played a vital role in the lives of the people of the Cagayan Valley Region.
Just like ot other churches in Cagayan, the Church of Piat is also made of red bricks. In front of the church is a designated area where devotees can light their candles. There are also some vendors besides the church selling prayer books, and rosary to the pilgrims.
At the right side of the church is a small door which leads you to the back of the image of Our Lady of Piat. One can say their prayers here while holding the dress of the image.
