Colon Evening Tour with Ka Bino!
Posted by on November 30, 2010
Two weeks ago, I was in Cebu City Philippines for a quick vacation. It was a trip with no itinerary and no specific plans in mind. What I just wanted to do is just take a rest.
When I arrived in Cebu City, I just met with Ka Bino Guerrero, one of the City’s premier City Guides. We just had some chit chat. then later at around 6PM, we walked from his office going to Calle Colon, the street known to be the Philippines’ oldest. From there we got to explore every nook and cranny of Colon and even the very interestng Carbon Market.
Wow! Carbon Market is really alive at night! The smell of fresh ginamos is just everywhere. There are section purely for vegetables, there are sections devoted for fresh fruits.
I always love walking along the public markets, as this is this place is just so full of activity, and you get to interact with the locals. You get to observe how the locals do their day–to-day or weekly grocery.
There were some friends who were surprsed to see me talking night shots of olon and Carbon Market. I have been telling them that Carbon and Colon is a safe place. There’s no need to push the alarm button.
After walking past the market, Bino then toured me around Colon’s secret gems: The heritage buildings scattered all over the district. There were just so many, I lost count. Although I have already seen some of these buildings before, seeing them again under the moolit sky is something that is new to me.
After walking for more than an hour (?) we ended our impromptu tour beside a mall. It was only then that Ka Bino told me that what we did is a prototype of a new tour that he is wants to launch soon. I got really excited after learning that what we did will soon be available to the general public! this is a great way to introduct tourists to the Call Colon, and to re-introduce the locals to the oldest street in the Philippines and how important it is in Cebu.
Right now the Calle Colon evening tour is available only upon request, but hopefully this will soon be launch, just in time for the Sinulog Festival 2011. this is a great tour one must experience when in Cebu City for the Holidays.
Many thanks to Ka Bino for letting me experience this great walking tour! I really cant help but get excited once the tour is available to the pulic!
