Backribs Lunch at the Bourbon Street

Last week I an amazing lunch at the Bourbon Street in Smallville Complex Iloilo City, Philippines. I was actually in Iloilo as one of the organizers of the recently concluded Visayas Blogging Summit and the Philippine Blog Awards – Visayas.

During the Visayas Blogging Summit the conference speakers had their lunch at the Bourbon Street. so more or less I am already familiar of their menu. And of course, I have heard a lot of good thing about this resto.

So Jorry and I invaded the Bourbon Street last week and I was all ready and excited to taste their menu offerings.

First to arrive in our table is the Cream of Mushroom and Celery Soup . It looked so white, and shall I say, lifeless. But wait until you had your first try. The soup is a bomb!

It’s just so flavorful and has a subtle hint of spiciness.I’m not really fond of spicy foods but the soup has passed my spice-o-meter. Great flavor, and definitely, the best way to open up the appetite!

Next to arive on the table is the Southwest Salad. I have tried this citrusy salad last week during the conference. This salad is made of grilled citrus, marinated beef, greens, tomato confit and roasted bell peppers topped with parmesan cheese and placed in baked pastry cups.

I love the interesting citrus flavors blended with meat slices and French Vinaigrette.

Third to arrive in our table was a surprise. It’s something I never expected on a lunch: BURGER!

Apparently, this resto, which is actually known for its Backribs, is also visited by patrons for its mouth-watering burger. Nah, not just an ordinary burger, but a US Beef Burger!

I love burger, and of course, hindi ko talaga ito papalampasin! The patty is so thick. On first bite, you’d instantly know that its 100% pure beef goodness. No extenders added. It’s just oozing with all the flavors. And yes, it has bacon too! Yummy! This is something na pwede kong balik balikan!

Naloloka na ako sa dami ng foods!

Next served in front of us was the Sizzling Korean Fish. It’s actually a butterflied tilapia, deep fried to golden crispness poured with a sweet spicy Korean sauce. On its side is a generous amount of Kimchi. The Kimchi is not authentic. It’s not fermented in earthen jars, but I love its flavor. di sya ganun katapang ang amoy.

The the star of all these finally came, perfectly-cooked mouth watering backribs!

I have tried their backribs during the Blogging summit and it was just oh-so-good. Unlike the usual backribs, Bourbon Street’s version is really tender but doesn’t have that “falling off the bone” consistency which is really good when taking photos before eating it. altough it doesn’t fall off the bone, it doesn’t mean that it is not tender. IT IS! and the flavor is just so heavenly! There’s a barbecue sauce served on the side, but I always prfer my ribs plain, as it is. It simply shows that their ribs are areally full of flavor and no longer needs more sauce. Sarap sarap talaga! Now know why people are raving about Bourbon Street!

After the backribs, desserts were served. I ordered Dark Toblerone and Walnut Cake while Jorry got the Million Layer Cake. I heard that the Dark Toblerone Cake was served as dessert during the blogging conference. But since I left the lunch venue early, I wasnt able to give it a try, so I decided to order it this time.

Masarap sya! The cake is perfect if paired with vanilla ice cream. It’s always best served as ala mode. I love the texture and the flavor.

Jorry’s Million Layer cake is really good too! It’s a made of several layers of crepes with semi sweet cream concoction as filling and a dulce de leche glaze. It’s not too sweet. The flavor is really delicate and the texture of the crepes is so smooth.

With all these foods i front of us, naubus namin lahat ito! It’s is just a testament that Bourbon Street foods are amazing should always be tried in in Iloilo City. Bourbon Street is named as one of the finest restaurants in the Philippines by Philippine Tatler in 2009.

Many thanks to Sir Scott for inviting us to have lunch at Bourbon Street. Check out their website . Bourbon Street is l;ocated at the Smallville complex, Diversion Road Mandurriao iloilo City Philippines.
