Guimbal Iloilo is the Kraft Eden Cheese Sarap ng Pasko Eden Town!

I was in the town of Guimbal Iloilo yesterday to hear the first Misa de Gallo mass and cover the awarding rites of the Kraft Eden Cheese Sarap ng Pasko Christmas Campaign.

Last September, Kraft has launchedthe Karft Eden Cheese Sarap ng Pasko campaign in an attempt to break the longest celebration of Christmas. The campaign introduced 100 towns which featured 100 dishes for the Christmas season. Aside from these delectable dishes with Kraft Eden Cheese, the 100 towns also have a special project attached to their campaign.

Voting for the campaign ended last week, and after more then 35,000 votes, the town of Guimbal, Iloilo has been declared as the Kraft Eden Town.

The Awarding program started immediately after the first simbang gabi. The priest even announced to gather at the town square after the mass to witness this historic event.

As a winner of the Kraft Sarap ng Pasko Contest, the mastermind behind the town’s dish: Pininyahang Manok was recognized. One resident also won in the raffle, earning her PHP100,000. Merry na talaga Christmas nya!

Then the local government execs were called to the stage to receive the 2 Million Check. The 2Million check is actually just symbolical. The town won’t be receiving cash prizes but instead the project anchored to their Kraft Eden Chese Campaign will be provided.

Guimbal’s project was an ambulance which they can use at their hospital. More than just a celebration of the longest Christmas, the Sarap ng Pasko is a noble campaign which grants the wishes of the wining towns for their livelihood project or whatever they wish, as long as the people benefits from it.

During the awarding ceremony, a surprise guest also came, Aiza Seguerra who sang Christmas songs to the delight of the locals.

After the program, the wininng dish, pininyahang manok was served to the people. Everyone went home, busog of the dish. I actually like it. It’s somewhat similar to, mechado but with a hint of sweetness. The cheese is all loaded at the sauce. It’s not nakakaumay.

I have also been to Guimbal several times but on all occassions I went there on an afternoon so taking a photo of the church is a really bad idea.

fortunately, I had this chance now to take photos of the church of Guimbal during the program. The Guimbal church is I guess one of the most popular landmarks of the town.

I hope hope that next year this campaign would still continue. More than just breaking records and sharing the mouth-watering dishes, what is important is that we give hope to these towns and cities by providing what they really need. May it be a school building, a library, a solar panel, or anything that the town needs.

Oh wait, did I mention that Kraft Eden Cheese will also release a limited Edition of Carton boxes featuring the landmarks of Guimbal? Gosh, I should get one!
