Sarangani, Your Adventure!
Posted by on December 23, 2010
A few weeks back, I had the chance to experience the best of Sarangani, through the Sarangani, Your Adventure tour. The tour was spearheaded by the cool folks at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sarangani.
The tour known as NEYEM Sarangani opens up the wonders of the province as well as introduce to the tourists its native products through the One Town One Product (OTOP) scheme.
During the tour we left early from General Santos City and proceeded straight to Maitum for our hearty breakfast. Our meal of the day is fried Bangsi, boiled corn, blanched okra, corn coffee and a whole lot more.
Among the many foods served to us, it was the Bangsi that has really made a big impression on me. Its superbly delicious perfect for early morning breakfast. It is a good partner for sinangag or fried rice.
After the breakfast we then proceeded to New La Union, Maitum for the White Water Tubing Adventure. The place was called as such because a lot of the people living here actaully came from the province of La Union. Unlike the white water activity in Cagayan de Oro which uses kayaks, the ones in Maitum uses rubber tubes or salbabida. For only PHP120, one can already experience 1.6 kilometers of adrenaline rush through the waters of Pangi River. The River is said to be one of the cleanest in the country. The water is pretty cold so it’sgood to get acclimitized first before jumping into the tubes.
The experience is really superb! I still can’t get over with the feeling of getting splashed with cold water on my face! And I swear, I’ll be back here this coming February! Don and Fitz, you should try this too!

After the white water adventure, we then headed Lemlunay Resort in the town of Maasim for a lunch. This is the second time that I have been to Lemlunay. The food is great. Our lunch was Chicken Cacciatore with steamed veggies and rice, Pookey or the Hawaiian Kinilaw; and steamed pompano. Among the foods served, I loved the Pookey so much. It’s tuna kinilaw with teriyaki sauce. Yummy!
From Lemlunay, we then went back to General Santos City to pick up Avel at the Robinson’s Place. From Gensan we drove eastward towards the town of Malapatan and check out the Maguindanao weavers in Brgy Balungis. I am always amazed at wand woven cloths. Many of my friends know how I get crazy every time I see hand woven cloths. That’s wht when I was in Malapatan, I grabbed the oppurtunity to buy a large scarf. The woven material is made using rayon. I love the texture, and the colors are very vibrant!
From Balungis, we then drove further east towards the beach capital of the province, Gumasa in the town of Glan sarangani.
This is also my second time in Gumasa. And who would forget the accident I had last July when I went there? the scars on my legs will always be a reminder of my Sarangani (mis)adventure.
Last July Sinjin and I only managed to go to Isla Jardin del Mar. This time, we had the oppurtunity to do beach hopping. The beach of Rosal is much much finer than the ones in Isla Jardin.
The sunset in Gumasa is just so dramatic!
From there we headed back westward to Isla Melousa for our dinner: Kambing and Karnero! Great food. Sarap talaga ng kambing!
Many many thanks to DTI Sarangani and to Sox Bloggers for inviting me to join the whole day tour.
Promise, this will not be the last time I’ll visit Sarangani. Ill be back there soon!

It was really a fun discovery tour of Sarangani.
You forgot to the karnero dishes we had for supper!
Anyway, I guess it’s time for an overnight stay at Gumasa, Glan or at any of the resorts there.
See you in February then for this and for the Kalilangan!
ayos yung water tubing, I wanted to try it in Bohol but wasn’t able to…I’ll list Sarangani to my places to go in 2011.
Wow! Great post about my beloved province! Yahoo! Nakaka-proud.
